Do you have a car that never breaks down unless you’re broke? Have you ever noticed that super-discount airline tickets are only super-discounted when you’re out of cash until payday? Have you ever drained your checking account but forgotten to pay the one bill that should have been paid before all the others? Small cash loans are perfect solutions for problems like these. They’re quick and easy to get, quick and easy to pay back, and you can use the extra cash however you want.

Small cash loans are quick and easy to get

Fast online application

No faxing or waiting in line

Instant matching with the best payday lender

Immediate response to your loan request

Credit checks generally not required

Bad credit, no credit, bankruptcy accepted

Loans of up to $1,500

Installment loans for bad credit

Cash deposited directly to your account

In many cases, funding in just two hours

Small cash loans are quick and easy to pay back

Most online payday loans are paid back in one automatic deduction from your bank account on your next payday. It’s that simple. You don’t have to remember to write a check or go online to pay. A single-payment loan is the best option when you know you can get by on your next paycheck after paying back a cash advance.

When you need more time, an installment loan can be a better choice. An installment loan costs a little more than a single-payment loan, but it allows you to make smaller payments over a longer period of time.

Spend small cash loans any way you want

Chances are you’ll want to fix your car or pay that overlooked bill, but you aren’t limited to those choices. You can spend small cash loans however you wish. (You might, for example, actually snag those super-discount airline tickets while they’re actually super-discounted.)

For most people, getting a personal loan takes time, effort, and lots of paperwork. New York congressman Gregory Meeks from Queens, however, apparently just “forgot” more than $55,000 in personal loans. A member of the U.S. House of Representatives for the last 11 years, Gregory Meeks is on the House Financial Committee. What were these loans for, and who was the private money lender?

Gregory Meeks’ “oversight”

The New York Daily News last Sunday revealed that Gregory Meeks neglected to list two cash personal loans on financial disclosure statements. In a statement to the Daily News, Meeks admitted that these loans existed, but did not reveal any other information about them. These loans were one $40,000 loan in 2007 and one $15,000 loan in 2008. Both of these loans were listed as “personal unsecured loans.” Meeks also has a loan worth $50,000 to $100,000 with a Queens businessman.

Financial disclosure requirements

Members of the U.S. House of Representatives are required to make extensive financial disclosures. These disclosures are due by May 15 of each year and list assets, liabilities, incomes, gifts, board membership and real estate. Gregory Meeks’ 2009 disclosure was filed about a month late, which prompted inquiries. Meeks said a “careful and thorough review” was initiated, and this review found the “oversight” in his disclosure. Technically, these disclosures are supposed to be public, though the House Clerk and Secretary of State, with whom they must be filed, do not post these disclosures online.

Consequences for Gregory Meeks?

Because of his “oversight” of forgetting to mention an extra $55,000-plus in personal loans, Gregory Meeks may face discipline. First, he could be charged with a violation of the ethics code under House Rule XXVI. Second, his congressional constituents could take action against him. Most likely, however, Meeks will not face charges unless there are improprieties in the administration of these “small” cash loans. It will be up to the voters to decide in the next election whether Gregory Meeks should face consequences or not.

Quick, in 140 characters or less, what do promoted tweets mean for most Twitter users? Promoted tweets are the first of a planned group of Twitter advertisements that will appear as highlighted search results. The overwhelming Twitter chatter seems to be against the Promoted Tweets program, but Twitter cannot run forever on small cash loans from venture capitalists.

How Promoted Tweets will work

The Promoted Tweets advertising system is built to appear much like Google advertisements, only more “organic.” When someone uses search.twitter.com, contextually relevant results will appear at the top of the search results. For example, if you search Twitter for “mocha,” a “promoted tweet” by Starbucks that mentions a mocha will appear above the current Twitter chatter. Companies that have already signed onto Promoted Tweets include Best Buy, Bravo, Red Bull, Sony, Starbucks and Virgin America.

Promoted Tweets will rely on Twitter Users

The basis of Promoted Tweets is that the advertising will rely on tweets that would be posted by the companies anyway. The hope is that Twitter users will retweet, reply or bookmark the promoted Tweets. Twitter promises that any results that users don’t interact with will be removed from search results. The exact price of Promoted Tweets has not been revealed, but if the program is successful Twitter is sure to be able to begin debt settlement relief with its investors.

Plans for the growth of Promoted Tweets

The Promoted Tweets program does not stop just with the display of search results. Instead, Twitter has outlined that, if Promoted Tweets is successful, they will expand the program. First, the Promoted Tweets will be “injected” into the timelines of anybody who already follows the company. Second, these Promoted Tweets will also be displayed by Twitter clients such as Tweetie and Seesmic, as well as clients being developed by companies that have chosen to hire a dedicated programmer to create iPhone and Android apps.

The reality of Promoted Tweets

The Twitter microblogging site is using Promoted Tweets as the first step into “monetizing” the immensely popular site. Created in 2006, the site has stubbornly refused to create revenue in any major way until now. Biz Stone, the head of Twitter, says the company wanted to create value first and money second. By announcing Promoted Tweets, it appears Twitter will be looking for a way to give investors a return on their $57 million investment. Some users may leave the microblogging site, but if the reactions of users to other social networking launching advertising are any indication, most users are willing to put up with advertising to support their favorite web applications.

Image from Flickr.

At a particular former job of mine, there were days I would end up carrying four cell phones, each with a different number and a different purpose. Line2 for the iPhone, created by Talktumi, takes situations like this and streamlines them into one iPhone. In addition, the Line2 app can turn an iPod Touch into a full-blown cell phone wherever there is WiFi. Line2 is the game-changing app that Google Voice and Skype for the iPhone were trying to be. The best part is, Line2 charges only $15 a month – so you won’t have to look into small cash loans to double your phone’s functionality. The challenge for Line2 is going to be keeping the momentum going. Yesterday, after showing off Line2 at the CTIA conference, Talktumi’s Line2 App was No. 1 in the iPhone app store. Today, they’ve taken the app offline to fight a DNS attack.

Line2 App uses two data networks

First and foremost, the functionality of Line2 is based on something that the iPhone was itching for – the ability to make and receive calls using either the 3G data network or WiFi. Line2 “prefers” WiFi connections, as they are more reliable, but if you move from one hotspot to another, it will seamlessly switch you, even mid-call.

The best part of this dual-mode Line2 functionality is that it allows you to make and receive phone calls without using your precious cell network voice minutes. Much like Skype or Google Voice on your computer, long-distance international calls are also much less expensive. At $15 a month and $1 for the Line2 App, it’s cell phone service that doesn’t require payday lending to pay the bills.

Line2 App does more than make calls

The Line2 App is about more than just turning your calls over to internet connections. Instead, the Line2 is a full-featured second phone line. You can set up a second cell phone number with Line2, routing a home and business number to the same phone. You can also set up a virtual phone tree – press 1 to reach A, press 2 to reach B, if you’re a business owner trying to keep things in line. Best of all, Line2 provides visual voice mail, conference calling and a choice of how to make incoming calls. It’s like having a second iPhone on your iPhone.

DNS Attacks on Line2

Line2 quickly rose the ranks of the iPhone app store to become No. 1 on March 25. Many were surprised that the Line2 App got approved by the Apple App Store – Google Voice for the iPhone was just recently rejected for providing a very similar service, which the App store claimed would compete for the “core business” of the iPhone – making calls.

Users who spent the morning of March 26 looking for the Line2 app were sorely disappointed. Talktumi took Line2 offline at about 9 p.m. Eastern Time March 25 due to a coordinated DNS Denial of Service attack. The company is providing up-to-the-minute updates on the Talktumi Twitter account, and hope to have Line2 up and running again soon.

Image from Flickr.

For decades, scientists have worked under the assumption that life, as we know it, is possible only in a very narrow set of circumstances. However, with the recent discovery of the lyssianasid amphipod, a distant cousin of the shrimp you had as an appetizer last weekend, that belief is being quickly broken down. Sure, none of these deep-sea creatures are going to be running a personal loan company anytime soon, but they are already blowing scientists away with their achievements.

What is a lyssianasid amphipod?

The Lyssiansid amphipod is a member of the Lysianassidae family of amphipods. Amphipods include more than 7,000 shrimp-like creatures with exoskeletons – their bones on the outside of their body.

This particular lyssianasid amphipod was captured on video by NASA scientists exploring the underside of Antarctic ice with video cameras. The scientists did not expect to see anything except bacteria in this subfreezing, ultra-dark water – so when this little pink amphipod parked itself on the camera cable, they were truly surprised.

Why is this lyssianasid amphipod special?

With more than 7,000 classified amphipods, what is so special about this lyssianasid amphipod? It’s special because it was not expected. For a very long time, scientists assumed that anything above a bacteria could not survive in the extreme environments on the planet.

However, as the Christian Science Monitor points out, this lyssianasid amphipod is just a part of the more than 500 new types of marine species that are discovered every year by scientists, some with small cash loans, others that are very well-funded. Some, like the recently-discovered lyssianasid amphipod, live in water that is so cold and dark the conditions mimic some of Jupiter’s moons. Other creatures live in water that can get hotter than 700 degrees Fahrenheit.

What does the discovery of the lyssianasid amphipod mean?

To make a very long story short, this lyssianasid amphipod is forcing scientists to rethink their definitions of “habitable.” Conventional wisdom has held for a very long time that life simply cannot exist outside of the very narrow band of environmental factors on our planet. However, creatures we are discovering in our own oceans are forcing a rethink of this. With a new, wider definition of where life can survive, it becomes theoretically possible that creatures above bacteria on the food chain could live much, much closer to our own planet than we had ever thought. Beyond “Men from Europa” or “Men from Mars,” though, the lyssianasid amphipod is proving to us that our own oceans still have plenty of surprises buried in the depths.

Despite the rough economy and the overall drop in charitable donations, Innovations for Learning, a nonprofit that supplies schools with the TeacherMate system, is doing quite well. The foundation has only been around for 18 months, but thanks to the founder’s focus on cost-efficiency, this nonprofit business is booming.

Perhaps that’s because companies like JPMorgan Chase recognize the social and education value of TeacherMate. JPMorgan has donated $300,000 per year since 2007, before the foundation was officially launched. While other nonprofits are struggling to find small cash loans, Innovations for Learning founder Seth Weinberger’s business savvy has attracted plenty of donors, to the tune of about $800,000.

What is TeacherMate?

TeacherMate is a literacy program that’s run on small, hand-held computers. Thanks to Innovations for Learning’s partnership with a Chinese manufacturer, the TeacherMate computers cost schools about $100 each. According to the TeacherMate web site:

Imagine having a handheld computer for every student in the classroom, with activities that not only cover all beginning reading and math skills, but also precisely aligns with what is being taught that week in the classroom. Imagine having a tool that provides an individualized lesson plan for each student and delivers up-to-the-minute student progress reports based on data automatically uploaded from the handheld computers.

The web site also emphasizes how engaging it is for students. It says it keeps students focused, and even the hardest-to-reach students’ scores improve.

It’s all about the kids

TeacherMate uses educational games to hold students’ interest, and several teachers and educational administrators have provided tesimonials about TeacherMate that illustrate its effectiveness. One JPMorgan excutive credits Weinberger’s business model and social conscience with the success of the foundation.

“Seth is not in it to make money, which is key to making education technology accessible to the classroom,” said Mark Rigdon, national director of educational grant making at JPMorgan Chase. “He is very nimble at blending his business innovations with the education needs of early elementary students and teachers.”

Though Innovations for Learning charges schools $100 per device, sales of TeacherMate computer systems only make up 20 percent of the foundation’s budget, and the rest comes from donations. Weinberger himself has contributed $350,000.

Small Cash Loans let you do good things right now

Payday is two weeks away and you’re short of cash today, but her birthday is tomorrow. She’s your best friend and she’s turning 29. (Who cares how many times over?) You’re not one to rest on formalities and neither is she, so you could wait to get cash until payday and she’d understand. But who can say just how many more times she’ll turn 29?

Small cash loans make it possible to do good things right now. Why lessen the moment by making her wait?

Small Cash Loans are fast and easy to get

Instant response, no waiting or wondering

Nothing to fax, no need to drive anywhere

No credit check, bad credit, and no credit okay

Bankruptcy, repossession, and foreclosure okay

Installment loans for bad credit available

Loan amounts of up to $1500

Cash deposited directly to your bank account in as little as two hours

Easy payment by automatic deduction on payday

Small Cash Loans let you do the usual things, too

Maybe you need cash for something more mundane, like the rent or an electric bill. Small cash loans are a great way to avoid late fees, and when you’re up against deadlines, late fees add up quickly. When you know that you can get by on your next paycheck after paying back a cash advance, getting a small cash loan can be a better way to make ends meet than relying on a credit card.

Credit cards are just too easy to use – too easy to overuse—and too hard to pay off. And no, small cash loans don’t come for free, but credit-card fees are off the charts these days. With small cash loans, you know exactly how much you can spend and exactly when the debt will be paid off. There’s no chance of overspending on things you don’t need, and there are no surprises.

Slightly larger Small Cash Loans let you do it all

On the off chance that your rent isn’t paid and it’s her birthday tomorrow, remember that once a small cash loan is deposited to your account, the money is yours and it’s completely up to you how you spend it. So why not make the landlord and your best friend happy right on time?

Do you ever get that feeling that you want to throw your computer out the window when you experience a glitch? Imagine a computer glitch that made you think you had won more than $166 million. Obviously, in this story, a casino denies a man a jackpot.

In Tampa, Fla., on Sunday, Bill Seebeck was playing a slot machine at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino. When he hit the jackpot, the machine did its usual bells and whistles performance, but a very unusual amount showed up indicating how much Seebeck had won: $166,666,666.65

Casino denies man jackpot

Officials at the casino explained to Seebeck that the machine had malfunctioned, as the maximum payout for that game was $99,000. Furthermore, they said, the $1.50 bet he had made could only result in a $2,500 payout. Furthermore, they said, you’re not getting a cent. Furthermore, they said, sign here.

Well, this wasn’t small cash loans he was dealing with here, so Seebeck said, to paraphrase, “Sign what?! I don’t think so,” and went off in search of a lawyer. He didn’t get very far, though. By Tuesday, Seebeck and the casino had reached a “good faith” agreement. Either the “undisclosed amount” the casino offered was huge or they really duped this guy. Who wouldn’t go to court for a chance at $166.7 million?

Historical facts

This is not the first time a Seminole-run operation has run into a fake jackpot computer glitch. In 2007, a slot machine at the Seminole Hard Rock Resort & Casino in Hollywood told a man he’d won more than $259,000. In that case, the man even got the oversized check to go with his jackpot.

However, when it came time to write the real check, the casino said there had been a computer glitch and he didn’t win. In that case, after a media storm following the event, the casino agreed to pay the man the full amount. I hope Seebeck knew about what happened in the other “casino denies man jackpot” story before he agreed to accept whatever undisclosed amount they offered.

Yet Sen. Al Franken’s Amendment Passes, 69-30

Democratic Senator Al Franken of Minnesota votes for people over corporations. (Photo: flickr.com)

Following one of the more vile incidents against a woman in American history, the Senate has voted in favor of Sen. Al Franken’s amendment to the 2010 Defense Appropriations bill that gives the government the right to withhold defense contracts (no small cash loans, either) from companies like Halliburton/KBR (not just that company) that deny employees from taking “workplace sexual assault, battery and discrimination cases to court,” reports Think Progress.

If you aren’t already aware, Jamie Leigh Jones was gang-raped by Halliburton/KBR co-workers in Iraq during the year 2005. After the tragic incident, she was imprisoned in a shipping container for at least 24 hours without food, water, or a bed. If small cash loans could have bought a human conscience, perhaps her captors could have found it within themselves to stop.

Talk and Lose Your Job

Furthermore, she was told that if she went against the company’s mandatory arbitration clause and sought treatment and justice outside, she’d lose her job. Apparently Jones was not alone in receiving this type of treatment. Considering that multiple source tend to corroborate that Halliburton/KBR’s record with cases that went to their “independent” arbitrator, one wonders why they even bothered with the charade of mandatory arbitration clauses.

Here’s What Sen. Franken Proposed

And Here’s the GOP Rebuttal

Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) called it “a political attack directed at Halliburton,” and Franken’s response (read the amendment yourself) was that “This amendment does not single out a single contractor. This amendment would defund any contractor that refuses to give a victim of rape their day in court.”

(Photo: wikipedia.org)

Jaime Leigh Jones’ Response

Jones made an appearance with Sen. Franken following the vote. “It means the world to me,” she said. “It means that every tear shed to go public and repeat my story over and over again to make a difference for other women was worth it.”

Applying for small cash loans is one way to make ends meet when you need cash until payday. But here are some money-saving ideas that might make it easier to get by.

Lighten up on the road

If you don’t own a Prius and don’t want to trade in your clunker, you can still cut down on the money you spend for gas each month by adjusting your driving habits. Aggressive highway driving — speeding, accelerating rapidly, and braking — lowers your gas mileage dramatically. Fuel efficiency decreases significantly at speeds in excess of 60 miles per hour.

Keeping your tires properly inflated can improve your mileage. Check your vehicle-owner’s manual to determine proper tire pressure, buy a reliable dial-type air-pressure gauge, and check your tires once a week. Too much weight in the trunk can also reduce fuel efficiency. Don’t carry around unnecessary items, especially in small cars.

Sign up for a flex account

If your employer offers a flexible spending account, you can cut the cost of your child-care expenses by signing up. The flex accounts offered by most large companies allow you to use pretax dollars to pay care-giving bills (including day camp) for children and elders who are your legal dependents. You can also use them to pay out-of-pocket health-care costs with pretax dollars. Why not save money by paying less for necessary expenses covered by a flex account?

Say good-bye to excessive phone bills

Why pay for a landline if you're not using it?

Teens love to text. If your teens have cell phones, switch to a family plan with unlimited texting. College students text less than high school kids, so consider upgrading to an iPhone or other smartphone with unlimited data if your college student agrees to a limited text and calling plan.

Lots of people today are dropping landlines altogether and using cell phones only. With the right calling plan, you might save money by following that trend. If your parents are paying for cell phones that they use for nothing but emergencies, you or they might save money by combining your phones in a family plan.

Work out for less

Walking and bike-riding are free. Yoga work-out videos are more convenient and much less expensive than classes. Dance for exercise anywhere you don’t have to pay a cover charge. You can do it for hours, and when you’re ready to sit, consider your workout over. Head home instead of sitting down to eat or drink.

Save on prescription medications

Some health plans have money-saving mail order programs for prescriptions, and sometimes you can save even more by buying generic versions of name-brand pharmaceuticals at chain stores like Target and Wal-Mart. If you’re taking a prescription medication on a long-term basis, ask your doctor if he or she can prescribe it at twice the potency you need so you can cut the pills in half. Usually, your copayment for the prescription will be the same at either potency.

Refill printer ink cartridges

It’s less expensive and less wasteful to refill both black and color ink cartridges at your local drug store or shopping mall instead of buying new cartridges when your computer printer runs low.

Share babysitter costs

The more you save, the more you can do for your best friend

Organize a babysitting co-op with neighborhood parents and take turns watching the kids for free. Your kids will be happier with their friends and there’ll be fewer rounds of Battleship and Apples to Apples for you! Or go in on a sitter with another family, paying, say, $10 an hour apiece instead of the usual $14 (more kids means a higher hourly rate for the sitter).

Save on pet expenses

Instead of hiring a pet sitter or boarding your pets when you go away, trade sitting duties with other pet-owner friends. Instead of taking Rufus to the groomer, take him to the pet grooming school where prices are about half what you pay the groomer. Pet insurance isn’t cost effective. If you have it, consider letting it go. Coverage is marginal and the premiums you pay probably amount to quite a bit more than anything you stand to save on vet bills.
