Robin Wright Penn has finally gone and done it. She filed for divorce from Sean Penn on Aug. 12. For those of you who love a lengthy, ruthless court battle between two famous people who are insanely rich, like the show we got out of Paul McCartney and Heather Mills, you are in for a disappointment.

Yes, Robin Wright Penn and Sean Penn have tons of money. Sean Penn has won two Oscars out of his five nominations, and Robin Wright Penn was nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance in the extremely lucrative “Forrest Gump.” However, court papers say the couple has already decided how they will split up their assets, so they won’t be spending their cash now on lawyers. They’ve also agreed to share custody of their 16-year-old son, Hopper Jack.

A long relationship

Robin Wright Penn and Sean Penn first started dating in 1989. After seven years and two kids together, the couple got married in 1996. Now, after a couple of false alarms, Robin Wright Penn says their marriage is over forever. Sean Penn filed for separation in May but withdrew it. The tabloids also reported in 2007 that the couple was divorcing.

Robin Wright Penn and Sean Penn also have an 18-year-old daughter together, Dylan Frances. It appears that after 20 years together, this really is the end. Robin Wright Penn said:

“I hit that crossroad a while ago—for Robin, the ‘I know what I don’t want’ [sign] was flashing neon lights. I have no regrets. I, we, have two amazing children we raised together.”

Will third time be the charm?

Robin Wright Penn and Sean Penn’s marriage was the second for both of them Sean Penn was married to Madonna four years and they divorced the same year he began dating Robin Wright Penn, who was married to Dane Witherspoon from 1986 to 1988.

Perhaps after the stars are estranged they’ll finally find “the one.” Or maybe “the other one.” After all, 20 years is a very long time to be with someone.

Robin Wright Penn’s career

Robin Wright Penn’s breakout role was Buttercup on “The Princess Bride.” Since then she’s been in dozens of movies, including “Message in a Bottle,” “Unbreakable” and “White Oleander.” Her role as Jenny in “Forrest Gump” earned her much acclaim and reinvigorated he fame she achieved with “The Princess Bride.”

She has also produced a couple of films, “Virgin” and “Hounddog.” Currently, Robin Wright Penn is rumored to be playing a role in “Hectic,” a movie planned for release next year.

Sean Penn’s career

Sean Penn has been in a wide range of films, including “Fast Times at Ridgemont High,” “Bad Boys,” “Cool Blue,” “The Game,” “The Thin Red Line,” “I Am Sam” and countless indie flicks.

He won his recent Oscar for his portrayal of Harvey Milk in “Milk,” and he has produced and directed a handful of films.
