Flickr photo.

Mortgage foreclosure statistics reached an all-time high in the first quarter of 2010. Meanwhile, the federal foreclosure prevention program appears to be losing momentum. The inventory of homes in foreclosure rose to 4.63 percent from 4.58 percent in the fourth quarter, the Mortgage Bankers Association said Wednesday. The combined share of foreclosures and mortgage delinquencies was 14 percent, or about one in every seven U.S. mortgages. The mortgage foreclosure statistics are expected to peak this year with more than 2 million borrowers losing their homes.

U.S. unemployment rate to blame

A primary cause for the mortgage foreclosure statistics is a high U.S. unemployment rate. Job losses have made it hard for homeowners to pay monthly bills without online cash loans. Jay Brinkmann of the Mortgage Bankers Association told Bloomberg that U.S. unemployment in the second half of 2009 — when people now in foreclosure would have first fallen behind on their payments — reached the highest level since 1983, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The unemployment rate declined to 9.7 percent in the first quarter of this year from 10 percent in the last three months of 2009. Brinkmann said the states with the highest unemployment rates — Ohio, Illinois and Michigan — have the biggest mortgage foreclosure increases.

Foreclosure prevention program ailing

The surge in the mortgage default rate leads some to believe that the Obama administration’s foreclosure prevention program, the Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP) is failing to work as advertised. The Treasury department said about 1.2 million homeowners have enrolled in the mortgage modification program. More than 299,000 homeowners had received permanent loan modifications as of last month — about a 25 percent success rate. About 277,000 homeowners, or 23 percent of those enrolled, have dropped out during a trial phase that lasts at least three months.

Mortgage modification program methods

Since the $75 billion HAMP program was announced in March 2009, federal officials have chastised lenders for not doing more to help borrowers. HAMP lowers mortgage payments to about a third of borrowers’ income by reducing interest, lengthening terms and deferring principal payments. The Atlantic reports that servicers are using term extension more than other methods. HAMP’s April progress report said 53.4 percent of loans have increased terms to lower the payments borrowers owe. Principal reduction is used on just 28.6 percent of mortgage modifications.

Mortgage modification program flaws

The mortgage default rate is increasing as more mortgage holders drop out of the HAMP program. Ghazale Johnston, a banking executive at Accenture, told banktech.com that a major cause of the HAMP dropouts is a practice that resulted in the plague of sub-prime loans in the first place. Mortgage servicers have relied on stated income, rather than verified income, to put borrowers into trial modifications. Once they verify the income, it’s discovered that the borrower isn’t eligible for the foreclosure prevention program. Other borrowers drop out of HAMP because servicers are bungling the paperwork and can’t complete the transaction. New HAMP rules that take effect June 1 require all borrowers going into a trial modification to be approved based on verified income.

Nokia claims that Apple has stolen some of its mobile technologies. Image from Flickr.

In the mobile phone market, Nokia and Apple are the two siblings that just can’t seem to get along. Nokia has sued Apple several times. Apple has counter-sued Nokia. At issue? More than 40 billion in online cash loans invested in research and development of cellular technologies. So what is the latest volley in this international debate?

Nokia sues over Apple iPad

The latest Nokia Apple lawsuit is based on the question of 3G technology. Specifically, five separate Nokia patents on the “technologies for enhanced speech and data transmission … and innovations in antenna configurations.” The design of the Apple iPad uses the technology Nokia believes it designed. Nokia believes that Apple is illegally using Nokia technology without paying licensing or asking permission.

Previous Nokia-Apple lawsuit

This is the second major lawsuit Nokia has filed against Apple. In 2009, Nokia sued Apple for patent violation on Nokia’s cellular telephones. Nokia is hoping to prevent Apple from importing Nokia products to European countries. In response to the 2009 lawsuit, Apple counter-sued Nokia. Apple’s claims against Nokia are also being investigated by the U.S. International Trade Commission. If Nokia wins the lawsuits, Apple may be forced to change the technology it uses in 3G phones and may be barred from importing its older handsets and iPads into Europe. If Apple wins the counter-suits, Nokia may be required to change its technology and will be barred from importing into the United States. Either way, there are billions of dollars of mobile phone market share at stake.

What Apple and Nokia suits mean

The real question that sits in the center of the Nokia and Apple lawsuits is intellectual property. Both Apple and Nokia have spent millions of dollars on research and development. The way United States patent law works is that processes and products can be patented, but programs must be copyrighted. The slightest change in process or product can change a patent. This means that when a company has hired dedicated developers, intellectual property rights must be negotiated. Different countries have differing intellectual property protections, so multi-national companies may be handling dozens of different legal frameworks.

(Photo: Flickr)

It began as an honest mistake, but has become something larger for the mother whose 1-year-old son nearly ingested a Happy Meal cigarette. According to the British news publication Metro, 21-year-old mother Nicky Holloway found an unsmoked cigarette in her young son’s Happy Meal box. Holloway the younger was happily grazing through his lunch with mommy. Ms. Holloway was horrified at the possibility that her son could have easily gotten hold of the cigarette and eaten it, which in turn could have easily lead to infant tobacco poisoning. Holloway took up the issue with the McDonald’s store manager, who offered her a refund or another meal, but this resolution did not satisfy. Now the “cigarette McDonald’s mum” plans to sue McDonald’s over the Happy Meal cigarette.

Server laughed over Happy Meal cigarette

According to Holloway, the server found it funny that there was a Happy Meal cigarette. Clearly, this server is not a parent, as any parent worried for the safety of her child would react with concern, rather than humor. At least save the humor for later, among colleagues, as the Happy Meal cigarette incident appears to be an accident. Don’t treat customers with disrespect, even if you are being paid only minimum wage. Show some pride in your work and take customer complaints seriously; being out of a job would certainly give you something serious to consider.

McDonald’s head office told the cigarette McDonald’s mum it was a foolish mistake

The McDonald’s corporate office even offered multiple free meals to Nicky Holloway and family, but it wasn’t enough. Whether Holloway will be able to get far with her Happy Meal cigarette lawsuit remains to be seen. Aren’t we overly litigious here in Western society? Does raising the Happy Meal cigarette lawsuit actually contribute anything worthwhile to society? It was an honest mistake.

And honest mistakes sometimes teach us much about ourselves

Now set aside any jokes about the quality of the food being just as healthy for the baby as a Happy Meal cigarette for a moment, regardless of how much truth those jokes may hold. If a McDonald’s employee had a cold and accidentally dropped mucus in a Happy Meal box, that would be considered vile by many. It’s an accident that could easily happen amidst the hustle and bustle of a busy fast-food kitchen.

Yet why is it that most people don’t consider the Happy Meal cigarette vile? It’s toxic and represents a tobacco industry that has traded countless cancer cases for gross profits over the course of many decades. Yes, it just fell out of the McDonald’s employee’s pocket by accident. But it is interesting that the overall reaction to the Happy Meal cigarette in the media is to bash Nicky Holloway for “going ape” over a cigarette in her baby’s meal. The Happy Meal is admittedly not a healthy food choice, but there’s a clear desensitization over the image of the cigarette at work here. Chalk that up to advertising and tobacco industry brainwashing and understand why more people don’t scoff at the very notion of “smoker’s rights.”

Image from Flickr.

For several months, the project code-named Microsoft Pink has been leaking out in bits and pieces – today, the speculation ended when the Microsoft Kin was announced. The Microsoft Kin will have two versions – creatively named Kin One and Kin Two – with slightly different feature sets. Both Microsoft Kin phones will focus on social networking and interaction. The Microsoft Kin will be available in just a few weeks, in late May, on Verizon. The price of the Microsoft Kin devices has not yet been set by Verizon or Microsoft, so don’t apply for an online personal loan to get one just yet.

Microsoft Kin based on networking

The Microsoft Kin phones are built around one major function: social networking. Much like the MotoBlur and HTC Sense, the Microsoft Kin phone puts your e-mail, phone, newsfeeds, and web browser all on “home” screens. The Microsoft Kin will also integrate the Zune MP3 player and will allow access to only the Bing search engine.

Microsoft Kin will back up information

Both versions of the Microsoft Kin will have one feature that Microsoft claims will set it apart from the phones that have similar features. Microsoft Kin phones will automatically back up all status messages, phone numbers, visited web sites — everything on the phone — to a password-protected web site. The Microsoft Kin will, essentially, put your entire handset online, so it is available without the actual handset.

Microsoft Kin One

The Microsoft Kin will have two separate versions available for sale at the same time. The Microsoft Kin One is a small, square phone with a slide-out keyboard. Microsoft Kin One is intended for one-hand use. A five-megapixel camera has a built-in flash. The Microsoft Kin One will also shoot SD video. Four gigabytes of memory will store videos, pictures, and information.

Microsoft Kin Two

The Microsoft Kin Two is twice the size of the Kin One. The rectangular shape is built for two-handed texting. The camera is 8 megapixels and will shoot HD video. The on-board memory of the Microsoft Kin Two is twice that of the Microsoft Kin One – 8 gigabytes.

Microsoft Kin won’t allow apps

The Microsoft Kin phones, codenamed the “Microsoft Pink” during development, is going to be a closed system. Though the operating system is based on Microsoft Windows 7, Microsoft Kin phones won’t allow outside applications. This means if you use a Microsoft Kin phone, you will only be able to apply for online cash loans, search the web and navigate your day-to-day life with applications that Microsoft builds.

Most everyone who shops on the internet is looking for a deal. There are many auction and low-price websites out there that are very popular, though Beezid.com offers a rather unique action-style experience. You can get a good deal on Beezid items, though, like most online shopping, the “ticket price” of Beezid products isn’t the real price you pay. Make sure you know how Beezid works before you end up taking out online cash loans to pay for your purchases.

Beezid Bids

The Beezid online shopping system is half auction house and half pay-to-play. You purchase “bids” – much like credits – from the Beezid site. These Beezid bids range in price from $1 each if you buy 15 bids down to 60 cents apiece for 200 bids. These bid credits from Beezid are non-refundable, so once you have purchased them, you cannot get your money back.

Beezid Auctions

There are then two basic types of auctions – penny auctions and reveal auctions. Penny auctions increase the price of the item by one penny each bid, and a timer resets every time a bid is made. The person with the most current bid when the timer runs out wins the item for whatever price is listed. Reveal auctions start with a higher price that you cannot see. You spend one Beezid “bid” to see the price of the item. Each time the price is revealed, it goes down. After a certain price point, you can choose to “buy now.” There are also “cherry auctions” that are reserved for first-time Beezid users only.

The real cost of using Beezid

Beezid auction offer both big and small ticket items at what appear to be great prices. There is the unpredictability of other users on Beezid, and you never know exactly what an item will go for. It is important to remember, however, that each time you click the “bid” or “reveal” button on Beezid, it costs you between $.60 and $1. This means if you bid on an iPod 30 times and win it at $30, you will have spent $60 before shipping. On small items, this may not add up very quickly, but on large items you may quickly get yourself into a situation where you’ll need short term loans for bad credit to pay for the item you’ve won. You can still get great deals on Beezid, but there are costs above and beyond the final auction price.

The Internet has done countless wonderful things for humankind. However, it has also served to highlight people’s lack of regard for the written word, specifically when it comes to grammar, punctuation, capitalization and spelling. Most days I feel I must not waste time being annoyed by the countless errors I’m subjected to as I read through my friends’ status updates on Facebook, but sometimes it is just too much to bear. If you want to make the day just a little better for your cousins, your grammar-loving friends, your mom and especially me, avoid these common Facebook mistakes. You can learn to avoid these mistakes without needing cash loans for tutors.

1. Misusing “your”

For some reason this word seems to be misused more often than it is used correctly. If you are using the contracted form of “you are,” the word is “you’re,” with an apostrophe and everything. Take the extra two seconds to think about what you are writing and get it right. You double check your information before you submit a personal loan application, right? Your is possessive, as in “your Facebook status.”

2. Apostrophe usage

Many people have decided that using apostrophes is unnecessary when posting message for all the world to see on Facebook. This can result in unclear communication and, more importantly, annoying me. When you’re using a contraction or making a word possessive, go ahead and use apostrophes. It will make your pinky feel useful.

3. Capitalization

I admit, I often neglect capitalizing when I am talking to friends on instant messenger. However, that’s because many times a lag in the conversation can make it confusing. When it comes to a Facebook status message, don’t be in such a hurry. Capitalize things, especially when referring to yourself as “I.”

4. Using homophones incorrectly

Homophones are words that sound the same but are spelled differently and have different meanings. People use “past” when they mean “passed,” “then” instead of “than,” “to” instead of “too,” etc. This bothers me mostly because I think that if writers were to think for a split second, they’d know the correct form to use.

5. Totally random punctuation

People use punctuation on Facebook that doesn’t actually exist or have a function in the English language. For instance, I have a friend who often uses “..” instead of an ellipsis (…) or a period. Why? I understand that commas and hyphens and semicolons and such are way too much to ask for, but at least stick to real punctuation. Calm down on the exclamation point usage while you’re at it.

6. Copy/paste statuses

This is not a specific mistake so much as an instance in which mistakes are more annoying. I am not a fan of the “copy and paste this to your status” trend, and it bothers me even more when I see the same mistake over and over. If you do copy and paste one of those viral status messages, go ahead and fix mistakes in it. You can do it. It’s as easy as getting online cash loans.

7. Quiz titles

I have actually seen grammatical mistakes in quiz titles that were about grammar. I don’t know who writes these quizzes, but for heaven’s sake, if you are writing a title on something that will be passed around and inevitably end up in my news feed, please get get it right. It is annoying enough to have my news feed clogged with announcements about the ridiculous quizzes my acquaintances are taking; at least don’t force me to read even more grammatical mistakes than I already have to.

It’s amazing how far political pundits will go to talk a little trash. Today, Erick Erickson, founder of the conservative blog RedState, said on CNN that it’s the late Senator Ted Kennedy’s fault, basically, that the healthcare reform bill is in danger of not passing. According to Politico:

“If Ted Kennedy had decided to resign, or retire, when he found out just how bad his health was, instead of wanting to be a martyr for the cause, the Democrats wouldn’t be in this position,” Erickson said.

He says Democrats would have held onto the seat if the Massachusetts special election had been held at a different time, specifically before the healthcare reform bill debate was in full swing.

Is Erick Erickson retroactive-psychic?

I may know more about online cash loans than I do about what would have happened in Massachusetts if they’d held a special election earlier. Nevertheless, I would like to present the following argument in two parts. *Clears throat*

You don’t know that

Even if that is true (see 1), that doesn’t mean you have to be a jerk

Unless Erick Erickson has some sort of special powers that allow him to know what would have happened in the past if certain events were different, he has no idea what the political climate would be like right now if Ted Kennedy had resigned when he found out about his health problems.

Why the low blow?

So, keeping in mind that there is no proof that the Republican victory wouldn’t have happened if Ted Kennedy hadn’t died while in office, let’s say he’s right. Let’s say his retroactive psychic powers are spot on. I do think that it’s a fair enough reverse-prediction to make. I’ll give him that. If the Massachusetts election had been held before the healthcare reform bill debate heated up, that senate seat would probably have gone to a Democrat.

This brings me to the second part of my argument: What is his point? Is he trying to send a message to all senators with health problems that they should immediately vacate their seats or something catastrophic will happen to their party? I highly doubt it. The only logical conclusion is that he just wants to be on record as saying that the current healthcare reform bill debacle is Ted Kennedy’s fault. He’s just using a Dead Kennedy for political ammunition. Jerk.

Thanksgiving coming up soon

Image from Flickr.

People tend to get very stressed out during the holidays. From mid-November to January, the ringleaders of families or groups of friends often appear tightly wound and overworked. If you’re the one saddled with hosting, planning and making Thanksgiving dinner this year, it doesn’t have to be that way.

The key to having a low-stress Thanksgiving is knowing “perfect” is a relative term. Realize in advance that everything will not fit the textbook definition of perfect. If you’ve got food and people at the table, you’re in good shape. Don’t get caught up in the details. Remember that Thanksgiving is remember what we’re grateful for, not being upset about things that don’t go as planned.

There are a few other things you can do this weekend to help things goes smoothly.

Plan your menu

A little planning today will save you a lot of stress next weekend and in the days just before Thanksgiving. As you’re planning out your meal, make sure you take cost into account so you don’t end up needing online cash loans at the last minute to pay for food. This weekend, sit down and plan your menu. If you have others contributing, call them to confirm what they’re bringing.

Find recipes for all the dishes you plan to make. Print them out and make a shopping list so that next weekend you are ready to hit the grocery store. Make sure you check your kitchen for the stuff you already have. Think carefully about kitchenware that you’ll need so if you have to buy a whisk or a turkey pan or a serving dish, you can get all of the food at extras at the same time.

Get your RSVPs

Make sure you know how many people are coming to your dinner, as this is crucial to planning your menu. However, I recommend making extra food for two reasons:

Leftovers are awesome

It will keep you from stressing out in the event of unexpected guests

My family and friends are the type of people who would invite the UPS delivery person in for a slice of turkey. If you make extras, you can open your home to people who happen by and share the warmth of your celebration and your food without feeling added pressure. If you end up with the expected amount of guests or fewer, keep the leftovers, and that’s a few more days when you won’t have to cook.

Online Payday Loans Offer Quick and Hassle-Free Finances

Feeling the money crunch? Online payday loans can help. (Photo: flickr.com)

Online payday loans are a perfect solution for people who remain busy in their day-to-day schedules. One of the biggest advantages of online payday loans is that these short-term loans can be used at your discretion. Even if you cannot pay back your payday loans immediately, most lenders offer extensions allowing you another 15 days in order to pay back the full amount. Usually these extensions will cost you from $25 to $30 or more depending upon the amount that you owe to the lender. You can request up to three extensions in some states.

Online payday loans can be an easy and hassle-free way to obtain financial support. Just submitting an application online for a payday loan does not secure your position to get a payday loan. After the loan application has been submitted, it will be approved and verified. The payday loan lenders may ask to check your credit history (although unusual) and other criteria like verifying your employer information, recording your referrals, etc. that you need to fulfill to qualify for a payday loan. Apart from all this, you (almost never) may need to make sure that you have some substantial utility bill receipts that prove the authenticity of your address.

What are the different ways in which you can benefit from online payday loans?

First of all, it’s a quick, convenient and hassle-free loan process. Online payday loans are perfect for busy people because all that is required to apply for a loan is completion of a short loan application form. You only need to provide the requested loan amount and enough information to verify your income and employment. The online process keeps you away from long waiting lines and lengthy transaction processes that otherwise would have taken your precious time and energy. Usually the application form is processed within a few minutes and in a short time the applicant gets to know whether their loan has been approved or rejected.

Payday loans offer great short-term assistance

One of the biggest advantages of online payday loans is that these short-term loans can help you borrow between $100 and $1,000 or more. Thus, for short financial crunches these loans can be of great help as long as you have the funds available to repay the loan when you get your next paycheck. You can even use these installment loans to get down payment assistance loans to purchasing a vehicle if needed.

Online payday loans can actually make you money

Do you know that when you get together with an online payday loan provider who offers incentives for referring their services with your family and friends, you could potentially earn a chunk of extra cash? Yes, there are loan providers who will give you $20 off on your next loan every time a potential applicant you refer gets approved for the loan. So how many friends do you have? If you are an employed person you may have a large group of friends and colleagues who at some time in life would require financial support for their short-term needs.

There are many financial institutes online that are dedicated to supplying you with a quick and easy solution to your immediate money needs. Online payday loans are the best option to fulfill your short-term needs.

A 9 11 Moment of Silence
Filling the hole inside us with
Memories
A reason beyond politics,
A cause
A light that cannot be extinguished

In honor of the victims of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, a 9 11 moment of silence was observed in numerous places across the nation. According to the Associated Press at http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5j_uiAU6uwN5XVEsj-xdaXFFL0ZYAD9AL29AO0, President Obama took the lead as he and First Lady Michelle Obama observed a 9 11 moment of silence today at 8:46 a.m. Eastern Time, which is the moment at which American Airlines Flight 11 struck the World Trade Center eight years ago. Afterward, a wreath-laying ceremony occurred at the Pentagon memorial, where an additional 184 people were slain. As a part of this day of remembrance, the president and Defense Secretary Robert Gates will meet with victims’ relatives.

An E-mail sent to White House staff

FOX News claims that they obtained an E-mail that was sent to all White House staff regarding the 9 11 moment of silence. As FOX is generally quick to accuse the current administration of latching onto moments like 9 11 solely for political gain, it will be nice to see the people of America prove them wrong. I hope that the public bands together to put together their own memorials and bars FOX from covering them, in fact. If online cash loans were needed for all the flowers they bought in memory of the fallen, I say it is money well loaned and well spent.

The E-mail message establishes the time of the 9 11 moment of silence and invites all Office of the White House, Office of Policy Development and Office of the Vice President personnel to gather with President Obama and the First Lady on the South Lawn for the 9 11 moment of silence. Those unable to attend the ceremony are urged to observe the 9 11 moment of silence where they’re working.

Nearly 3,000 died on September 11, 2001

New York, Washington, Pennsylvania and locations across America observed the 9 11 moment of silence. In New York, multiple news sources report that friends and family of those who died read the names of the nearly 3,000 people who died as a result of the attacks and the destructive aftermath.

In addition to the 8:46 a.m. 9 11 moment of silence in Washington D.C., a separate ceremony went on at the Pentagon where American Airlines Flight 77 struck. Another moment of silence was observed in New York at 9:03 a.m., when the second airliner (United Airlines Flight 175) hit the World Trade Center. Just before 10 a.m. Eastern Time, the 40 passengers of United Airlines Flight 93 were remembered with a 9 11 moment of silence in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Some polls indicate people still fear terrorist attack on American soil

Eight years have passed since the events of September 11, 2001. Some polls indicate that the perceived level of threat – while less than half what it was at the time of the terrorist attacks – is still significant. A CNN poll shows that 34 percent of Americans feel that another act of terrorism is “likely in the next few weeks.” Only 60 percent of those polled are confident that the Obama administration is keeping America safe. I’d like to know how many of those people are from South Carolina, believe that Joe Wilson was right to shout “You lie!” at the president during a joint session of Congress or think that being “cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs” is a legitimate mental health condition.

A name was added to the list of 9/11 dead this year

The New York Times reports that Leon Bernard Heyward’s name increased the total number of 9/11 casualties to 2,752. Mr. Heyward died in October of 2008 due to complications caused by exposure to dust after the collapse of the World Trade Center. A Bronx resident, Heyward was a father of two who worked for New York’s Department of Consumer Affairs. He was one of many people on the street who helped evacuate people before the first tower collapsed. His service to his fellow man will not be forgotten, just as the lives of all who died on that dark day will live on in the collective memory of this nation. Personal Money Market helps people apply for online cash loans; those who fell while serving others on 9/11 are heroes who deserve a 9 11 moment of silence.

Where does sugar grow best?

If you’re single and mired in a contemptible cycle of living from paltry paycheck to paltry payday loan to paltry paycheck, consider marrying money. But sugar grows better in some areas of the country than it does in others, and to optimize your chances of securing it, you may have to pack up and move. According to a recent CNN report, the five best places in the United States to find the rich and single are:

Hermosa Beach, California

Population: 19,414
Single: 47.2%
Median family income: $137,941

You can bask in the sun nearly all year long in this Southern California paradise, although you can’t rely on a suntan alone to attract sugar. To speed you along in your quest for moneyed matrimony, you’ll need to get another low-paying job – perhaps at one of the many bars near the Pier Plaza — so you can get online cash loans for incidental local amenities including roller blades, surf boards, swim wear and volley balls.

Arlington, Virginia

Population: 204,568
Single: 41.6%
Median family income: $108,815

You’re sure to meet someone in the pubs of the Clarendon district where live music and amateur stand-up comedy abound. But the singles scene in Arlington is dominated by scientific geniuses and government types, so you may have to do a little personal upgrading to meet local standards. For starters, you’re going to need another low-paying job – a regular day job, not a stand-up comedy gig – so you can get payday cash advances to fund an advanced online degree of your own. When choosing which degree to click on, think science not art.

Coronado, California

Population: 22,845
Single: 36.1%
Median family income: $106,817
Coronado is a peninsula surrounded by white sand and sparkling waves, so it’s a perfect place to hang out at the beach. But Coronado is a tall order: Golf, tennis, and sailing around the bay are the ordre du jour, so you’ll need to upgrade your employment situation before you move. Then you can make a smooth transition into a high-paying job with a commute to San Diego and qualify for those cushy $1500 online personal loans. You might also consider switching to installment loans because you’ll need extra cash for nightlife in the trendy bars and clubs of the Gaslamp district. For what they’re worth in your quest to marry money, the spectacular San Diego sunsets — sans drinks — are free.

Edgewater, New Jersey

Population: 9,582
Single: 34.3%
Median family income: $105,830

You may need to do some advance planning if you want to share a million-dollar townhouse nest with an affluent Edgewater professional. Holding hands while gazing at the silhouette of the Manhattan skyline is free. But it’s expensive to flirt with neighbors in the organic produce aisles of the local markets and to expand your social circle while ostensibly toning your muscles at one of the borough’s fitness centers. An Edgewater marriage is a lofty goal, indeed. You’ll need a good income and some correspondingly good payday cash advances to negotiate it. But once you have the necessary extra cash and have taken up that amazing line of steeples, towers, and belfries, you’ll be a shoe-in for marital bliss on the Gold Coast.

Santa Clara, California

Population: 109,756
Single: 34.0%
Median family income: $101,840

To the extent that being single in the Silicon Valley is synonymous with having a high IQ, you may need more than the best payday-loan money can buy to snag sugar in Santa Clara. But armchair sports fans need not despair: Santa Clara is home to the San Francisco 49ers’ training camp, which is open to the public on certain days. For sports fans more inclined to participate than watch, even a modest online cash advance will get you into the water – and possibly marriage — with fellow athletes at the International Swim Center.

The People’s Pharmacy has all kinds of great advice for unconventional but useful methods for treating common — and uncommon — maladies. For instance, did you know that Listerine wards off mosquitoes? That some dermatologists say you can get rid of warts with poison ivy?

So what exactly is The People’s Pharmacy? Well, it’s a web site. It’s a radio show. It’s a newspaper column. It’s a blog. It’s a line of books. It’s a podcast. It’s a newsletter. The medium isn’t important because it is every type of media. The important thing is, it’s a collection of “Honest, old-fashioned approaches that work!” and “Affordable alternatives to pricey pills!”

Dr. Everyone and the Graedons

So where does this information come from? It comes from everybody! Everyday humans ask questions, send in their tips for getting rid of heartburn or fending off an asthma attack without needing online cash loans to afford medicine. Medical experts contribute their thoughts as well through guest columns

Joe and Terry Graedon, a husband and wife team, review information and answer questions. Dave Korzon at Rambler Magazine says:

He’s the pharmacologist, the mercurial one, an in-your-face, quick-with-and-opinion-or-fact bulldog. She’s the medical anthropologist, a deep thinker, careful and precise with her comments.

Staying in business

Long before it was the multi-faceted information aggregate it has become today, The People’s Pharmacy was a best-selling book that was published in 1976. But the Graedons knew better than to stop there.

There’s more information flowing into the People’s Pharmacy every day. With their own expertise and their neverending supply of home remedies from readers and listeners, the People’s Pharmacy is an ever-growing source of information on all things health related. Here are some tidbits from The People’s Pharmacy.

Beware Benzophenon in sunscreen

Q. I am a breast cancer survivor and have heard that some sunscreens contain estrogen-like compounds. I cannot have anything that contains estrogen in or on my body, so I would like to know any brands to avoid and which brands are safe.

A. Benzophenone-3, also known as BP-3 or oxybenzone, has estrogen-like activity. We suggest looking for sunscreen that has physical blockers such as titanium dioxide or zinc oxide. These have no known hormonal activity.

Home remedies for nail fungus

Q. I would like information on home remedies for toe nail fungus. I don’t care about my ugly nails but they bother my wife.

A. Home remedies are generally low cost and low risk even though they are not tested the way prescription drugs are. One involves swabbing the affected nails with hydrogen peroxide.

Tea tree oil and oregano oil are other options. Here is one reader’s experience: “Oil of oregano from the health food store can get rid of toenail fungus if used consistently. I had it for over 45 years in my big toe. My dermatologist told me it was impossible to get rid of since I’d had it for so long. It looked awful, but my manicurist told me about the oil of oregano and it worked.”

Cherries against joint pain

Q. I have heard that sour cherry juice can ward off gout attacks and help relieve arthritis pain. I cannot tolerate drugs like ibuprofen because of a sensitive stomach. When I asked my pharmacist about non-drug options he was clueless. Have you ever heard of cherries against pain?

A. Some data suggest that sweet cherries have anti-inflammatory activity that might be helpful against both gout and arthritic conditions (Journal of Nutrition; June, 2003 and April, 2006).
Both sweet and sour cherries block an enzyme (COX 2) that is active in inflammation (Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, Feb. 2009). One reader reported, “I have used tart cherry juice for over one year now and I am PAIN FREE! I had a hip replaced and then pain started flaring up in the other one. I also have moderate arthritis in my knees, which would throb at night. I took tart cherry juice every morning and saw results after the third week.”
