No seance was involved

A few months ago, Barack Obama made an embarrassing comment about the widow Nancy Reagan and seances. See the video at the end of this article for his exact words. However, since then the president has apologized for having offended. Now, Nancy Reagan will come to the White House to meet with the current First Lady, Michelle Obama.

Rachel Swarns blogs for the New York Times that Mrs. Obama and Reagan will meet for the first time over lunch at the White House. It should be a delightful affair.

Commemorating Dutch’s 100th birthday

Nancy Reagan is in Washington D.C. for “the unveiling of a statue in the Capitol of her husband, President Ronald Reagan,” writes Swarns. The seven-foot statue is being placed in commemoration of Ronald “Dutch” Reagan’s 100th birthday. Apparently changes needed to be made to the original casting (per Nancy’s instructions), but no easy payday loan or payday loans from direct lender were needed to fund the changes.

Michelle Obama and Mrs. Reagan have spoken during the transition period for President Obama, and Mrs. Obama reportedly had a few questions for the former First Lady regarding life in the great big White House.

In a Vanity Fair interview, Nancy admitted that she has encouraged Mrs. Obama to have lots of state dinners. Apparently, the Reagans enjoyed playing host for heads of state and other important officials during their years in Washington, and Nancy hopes that Michelle can enjoy similar success during her husband’s time in office.

A maven for science

Nancy Reagan also told the magazine that President Obama missed a “golden opportunity” when he didn’t invite her to the ceremony at which he announced his decision to reverse former President George W. Bush’s policy on embryonic-stem-cell-research. Apparently the former Hollywood star is more forward-thinking than the Bush family progeny. Considering how her husband suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease, she would know just how important such research can be toward improving the quality of life of millions.

“I would have gone, and you know I don’t like to travel,” Mrs. Reagan said. “Politically it would have been a good thing for him to do. Oh well, nobody’s perfect. He called and thanked me for working on it. But he could have gotten more mileage out of it.”

Michelle: gracious, friendly

Michelle Obama is looking to make a good impression during her stay in the White House. According to Swarns, she had already consulted with former first ladies Hillary Clinton and Rosalynn Carter before moving in, and she even had lunch with Mrs. Carter and daughter Amy.
