The Ides of March marks the day in 44 B.C. when Julius Caesar was assassinated by a group of senators, including his close friend Marcus Junius Brutus. It is undisputed that Caesar was warned of his impending death. Shortly before his murder, a soothsayer said to him, “Beware the ides of March.” With the self-assurance typical of a dictator for life, Caesar brushed the seer aside, saying “He is a dreamer; let us leave him: pass.”

Shakespeare made history

Some say Ceasar was warned this way (photo: wikimedia.org)

These historical events were popularized some 1500 years later in Act 1 Scene 2 of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar. Given the lack of controversy, however, the soothsayer’s warning continued to languish in the chronicle of wasted time for several centuries more. It was not until 1970 that the esteemed cast of Monty Python changed that forever.

Python changed the course of history

In 1970, the Ides of March was finally rescued from obscurity by a British television comedy-sketch show. That year, in Monty Python’s Flying Circus Season 2 episode No. 15 entitled “Julius Caesar on an Aldis Lamp,” the soothsayer was seen sending the message “Beware the Ides of March” to Caesar in Morse code.

Not to be outdone by a mere soothsayer, Caesar, falling to his death at the foot of a statue of Pompey the Great, pulled out a really big Aldis lamp and flashed “Et tu, Bruté” to the assassins around him. These being historical facts, you can read the Monty Python sketch online. Once you’ve finished that assignment, you can also read online about installment loans for bad credit.

The Roman calendar came first

Before Caesar’s assassination, long before Shakespeare made history of the soothsayer’s warning, and long, long before the Python stream-of-consciousness phenomenon, the Ides of March was simply a division of the Roman calendar based on the phases of the moon. In some months, (March, May, July and October) the Ides falls on the15th and in others on the 13th. In Caesar’s time, the Ides of March also marked the beginning of the consular year, when Roman consuls took office.

Visit Monty Python online

More recently, in 2008, the Pythons created a YouTube channel featuring a selection of their favorite clips. It being the Ides of March, today or anytime would be an appropriate time to tune in. If you like what you see on YouTube, you can, of course, get a low rate personal loan and rent more history according to Python from your local video store.

Students at Ohio State woke up this morning to news of yet another shooting, this time on their own campus. CNN reports that the 51-year old custodial worker Nathaniel Brown is responsible for the Ohio State Shooting. Students, many of whom are paying for tuition with a low rate personal loan, are attending classes today.

Ohio State University shooter was unhappy at work

Much like the University of Alabama shooting in February, the Ohio State shooting is theorized to be the result of an unhappy employee. Nathaniel Brown had recently received a negative performance review and was on probation. His manager was killed in the attack, and an operations shift leader was also injured and is now in stable condition. The attack happened at 3:30 am, when there were very few people in the building and most students were asleep. The attack appears to have been very targeted at the Ohio State University employee’s supervisors.

Ohio State University emergency alert system

On Sunday, the Ohio State University student newspaper, The Lantern, published an campus news piece about the “opt-in” alert system for alerting Ohio State students of crimes. When the system was created, students had to opt in to receive the alerts, though officials are now considering making the system opt-out instead. In a single week, three separate major crimes were announced through this system. By informing students, Ohio State University is hoping that students will be able to help keep themselves and the campus safer.

Keeping college students safe

The Ohio State shooting raises larger questions, too, about how to inform college students of emergencies. Most college campuses are very spread-out, sometimes with hundreds of thousands of students over campuses that are several square miles. Alerting students on campuses like Ohio State’s of emergencies can be difficult. Some campuses still use loudspeaker systems, while others are turning to text messages, emails, and website announcements. No matter what the system, it is becomingly increasingly important that all people on a campus are informed as quickly as possible of emergency situations and crimes. Keeping any campus safe is difficult – balancing the needs of student freedom and campus safety even more so. While some would like to see military loans of personnel at every campus, having an informed and prepared student body is a much more realistic step towards keeping college students safe.

I think most people would agree Sandra Bullock and Meryl Streep were the frontrunners to be the Best Actress winner in 2010. Though Meryl Streep did not win, she did get multiple mentions in Sandra Bullock’s Oscar acceptance speech, which some media are calling the best Oscar acceptance speech of the night. After Sandra Bullock’s Oscar acceptance speech at the Academy Awards last night, the world is all atwitter about the Sandra Bullock, Meryl Streep kiss.

Sandra Bullock’s Oscar acceptance speech

So what was it about Sandra Bullock’s Oscar acceptance speech for Best Actress winner of 2010? She came across as humble, grateful and sincere. She praised the other actresses who were nominated for Best Actress 2010, starting with newcomer Gabourey Sidibe and the young Carey Mulligan. After saying Helen Mirren was like family, she said “Meryl, you know what I think of you, and you are such a good kisser.”

This time of year, people love a distraction from thinking about tax resolution, and the Sandra Bullock, Meryl Streep kiss seems to be doing the trick. The kiss in question actually happened Jan. 15 at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, which is a much less popular awards ceremony than the Oscars.

Sandra Bullock, Meryl Streep kiss

Sandra Bullock’s Oscar acceptance speech for Best Actress winner of 2010 was the first time many people heard about the Sandra Bullock, Meryl Streep kiss. Fox News says “we’ve had to hear over and over again about her girl-on-girl good times with fellow nominee Meryl Streep,” but during Sandra Bullock’s Oscar acceptance speech was the first I’ve heard of it.

The Critics Choice Awards aired on VH1 instead of a major network, and thus many people hadn’t seen or heard of the Sandra Bullock, Meryl Streep kiss. The two tied for the Best Actress winner of 2010 at the Critic’s Choice Awards, and when they were onstage together, Sandra Bullock kissed Meryl Streep.

Best Actress winner, 2010

Besides being awarded the 2010 Oscar for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role at the Academy Awards last night, Sandra Bullock is also getting a lot of positive feedback for her performance during her acceptance speech. Sandra Bullock’s Oscar acceptance speech for Best Actress winner 2010 was funny, heartfelt and, of course, mentioned the Sandra Bullock, Meryl Streep kiss. Watch it:

Unfortunately, after all the hype about the Best Actress winner of 2010, Sandra Bullock’s Oscar acceptance speech and the Sandra Bullock, Meryl Streep kiss dies down, we’ll all have to go back to thinking about getting a low rate personal loan or some other mundane task. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Sean Hannity is talking about it. The Tea Baggers Ball in Nashville screened it. For many people, that would be enough to permanently lose all interest in “it,” but in this case that would be unfortunate. “It” is “Generation Zero,” a documentary film that suggests that it was not deregulation that caused America’s financial distress, but a generational crisis of ego and selfishness. The filmmakers would likely assert that this crisis – which was born of the Great Depression and now runs rampant – is largely responsible for the behavior of those who would run to a personal loan company to satisfy their greed. Financial responsibility is always encouraged, but it is sadly a foreign concept to many people.

Baby Boom makes economic crater

Newscorpse and others don’t buy it, but let’s think about the “Generation Zero” argument. The “Greatest Generation” fought through the economic disasters and war of the 1930s and 1940s, and they vowed that their children should never have to face the same struggles in their own lives. Thus, the filmmakers argue, there was a parent-to-child overindulgence in the 1950s and 1960s. Rather than shielding them, parents gave them too much. Did this lead to generations of socially decadent people who drown their hardships in consumption, rather than tackling the root cause of the problems?

Oh, those anti-social hippies…

The liberal politics of the children of Woodstock are in “Generation Zero’s” sights, but that is arguably too simplistic. A more realistic view might be that a combination of Wall Street and Capitol Hill led us into the recession, where greed, lax regulation and ignorance of sound financial principles led to excessive risk-taking. This is similar ground that Michael Moore covers in “Capitalism: A Love Story,” where financial institutions are given aid but citizens are left to twist in the wind.

But no, it can’t be. “Generation Zero” is a conservative film and “Capitalism: A Love Story” is a liberal film – never the twain shall meet, right? Maybe not. Newscorpse draws our attention to one part of a recent on-air exchange between Sean Hannity and the “Generation Zero” movie producer and director:

Sean Hannity: Is it the political system that is more corrupt? Because I believe Capitalism works. Capitalism is the answer.
David Bossie, Producer: Clearly Capitol Hill is corrupt. Capitol Hill is the problem, not Wall Street here.
Stephen Bannon, Director: I think it an inextricably linked network between Capitol Hill and Wall Street. [...] You’ve had the American taxpayer, the average, middle-class American, paying taxes to bailout these big firms, and there’s been no change in behavior, no change in structure, no change in regulation.

Bannon’s idea makes the most sense

Politics are never as simple as right versus left. “Generation Zero” is a film born of right-wing sensibilities, but it may be more even-handed than you realize. So as our economic recession continues – with no “sustainable recovery” in sight, according to Ben Bernanke – you may think that you need a low rate personal loan now and again. Provided you do not borrow more than you can repay, you won’t be making the same mistake that got us all in this mess in the first place.

Will the Chillow Pillow fix everything?

Maybe I should ask him if he wants a Chillow Pillow.

My boyfriend and I have an ongoing disagreement about temperature; when it’s time to go to sleep, he wants the fan on and I want it off. I had kind of accepted that this would just be the way it is — that sometimes I’d have to put up with having the fan on, and sometimes he had to put up with leaving it off.

However, today I learned about the Chillow Pillow, and though I don’t believe in miracle products that solve all of your problems, I am curious about whether it would help. It just might be worth the $25 to find out, especially because Valentine’s Day is coming up, so I’ll be spending some money on him anyway. Sure, it’s not super romantic, but it is something that very well might make him more comfortable, and it’s not so expensive that I’d need a low rate personal loan to afford it.

What is a Chillow Pillow?

From what I can see on the web site, the Chillow Pillow is a pad you place on top of your pillow. The Chillow Store says “The Chillow acts as a radiator for your body. It uses water to absorb, and then dissipate heat back to the surrounding air, leaving a cool sensation.” Though the Chillow Pillow is filled with water, the web site assures that it stays dry on the outside.

It seems to me the Chillow is basically a specially shaped water bottle. My friend who had one said there’s a sponge inside that holds the water, and it needs to be changed sometimes. While most users report that the Chillow Pillow did, in fact, stay dry, there is always the threat of the Chillow Pillow sprouting a leak or getting a hole in it somehow.

Will I buy a Chillow Pillow?

I haven’t quite decided yet, though I should really kick this plan into action, seeing as Valentine’s Day is this weekend. The Chillow Store is having a buy one, get one half off sale, so now would be a good time if I want to try it, too. It sure would be nice to sleep without the fan on from now on.

What do you think? Have any of you used a Chillow Pillow? Do you think I should get it?

They’ve used payday loans to keep from overdrawing bank accounts and paying $35 bank fees.

So what exactly is a low-rate personal loan or a payday loan? It’s a short-term loan, and you get your cash right away. You will find out instantly if you’re approved for a low-rate personal loan, and your cash will be automatically, electronically deposited into your bank account a couple of hours.

How do payday loans work?

You don’t need to pay any charges up front or have any collateral to get a low-rate personal loan through Personal Money Store. Choose from a traditional payday loan, which you repay, along with your lender’s fees, all at once with your next paycheck. Did you know banks charge $35 per transaction for overdraft fees? Payday loans only require a one-time fee.

Another choice is to get an installment loan for your low-rate personal loan. You can get up to $1,500, and pay back the loan and lender’s fees in installments rather than repaying the whole thing at once. For bigger financial emergencies, such as an essential appliance breaking down, installment loans are a great choice.

Apply now for your low-rate personal loan

If you just need a few hundred bucks to tide you over and help you avoid overdraft charges, you’ll save money with a low-rate personal loan. Or, if you need a larger amount of money, check into getting an installment loan. Either way, low-rate personal loans through Personal Money Store can help you save money, get things you need or maintain financial stability, so APPLY NOW!

If you need a Low-Rate Personal Loan, APPLY NOW!

Whether Facebook, Twitter or MySpace is your favorite social network of choice, you have without a doubt seen more than one post or tweet about “Avatar” this morning. “Avatar” was first in box office earnings over the weekend, and people are raving about the 3-D experience. The only other wide release over the weekend was “Did You Hear About the Morgans?” which came in fourth place for box office earnings with $7 million.

“Avatar” at the box office made $73 million, well above the next-highest-grossing film, “The Princess and the Frog,” which expanded over the weekend. “The Princess and the Frog” made $12.2 million. That’s a pretty big gap between the “Avatar” box office earnings and the Number Two movie, $61 million. That’s a lot more than you could get with a low rate personal loan.

Surprises at the box office

“The Blind Side,” which opened a month ago, is still pulling in the big bucks. It was third in box office earnings with $10 million. It’s a little bit surprising for a film to be beating out other, newer movies at the box office a month after it opens, but I’m sure “The Blind Side” experienced a bump in popularity thanks to its Golden Globe nominations.

However, it is less easy to explain why another movie that has been out for a month showed up in the Top 5 box office earners. “Twilight Saga: New Moon” came in fifth, making $4 million. That’s not a lot of money, but “New Moon” had fallen off the box office earnings radar for a couple of weeks, despite its initial huge rush of popularity. There’s not much of an explanation for why “New Moon” suddenly is selling a whole bunch of tickets again, except that perhaps there simply aren’t other movies that people want to see.

‘Avatar’ box office breakdown

On the “Avatar” opening box office night, it made $27 million, which is a solid first day but by no means a record breaker. With all of the hype, now, surrounding “Avatar,” it will likely have a few more big money-making days at the box office.

“Avatar” will be up against some stiff competition Friday when Golden-Globe-nominated “It’s Complicated” and much-anticipated “Sherlock Holmes” come out. “Up in the Air,” which came in eighth in box office earnings over the weekend, expands again Wednesday.

Low-Rate Personal loans can help

I know several people who have gotten payday loans for all kinds of different reasons. I’ve had friends who used them to get their cars back from tow yards that charge hundreds of dollars a day if you leave them there. I’ve had relatives use payday loans to avoid overdrawing their bank accounts.

So what exactly is a payday loan? A payday loan is a low-rate personal loan that gets cash into your bank account immediately. You can find out instantly if you’re approved for a low-rate personal loan and have access to your cash in just a couple of hours.

How do payday loans work?

When you get a low-rate personal loan through Personal Money Store, you get your cash immediately with no charges up front and no collateral. You can choose to get a traditional payday loan, which you will pay back all at once when you get your next paycheck. At that time, you’ll pay back your lender’s fees as well. Did you know that the lender’s fees on small payday loans, say $100 to $200, are lower than bank overdraft charge fees? Furthermore, payday lenders only charge one-time fees, and banks usually charge $35 for every transaction made after the account is overdrawn.

You can also choose to get your low-rate personal loan in the form of an installment loan. If you need a larger amount of money, up to $1,500, you can pay back your loan with a few payments instead of all at once. Installment loans are great if an essential appliance breaks and other large financial emergencies.

Apply now for your low-rate personal loan

If you just need $100 to tide you over and help you avoid a $35 bank overdraft charge, you’ll save money with a low-rate personal loan. Or, if you need a larger amount of money, check into getting an installment loan. Either way, low-rate personal loans through Personal Money Store can help you save money, get things you need or maintain financial stability, so APPLY NOW!

Charles Gibson, who has worked for ABC News for 34 years and currently anchors “World News” has announced that he will retire at the end of this year. At age 66, the former Congressional correspondent and co-host of “Good Morning America” will retire. Charles Gibson said:

“It has not been an easy decision to make” Gibson said in his email to colleagues. “This has been my professional home for almost 35 years. And I love this news department, and all who work in it, to the depths of my soul.”

He didn’t really give a reason for why he is leaving “World News” and bringing his career to a close, but if I had to guess I’d say it’s because he is old. Given his position, he probably has plenty of money to live off of for a while, without even needing a low rate personal loan.

Diane Sawyer to take over “World News”

The new “World News” anchor will be “Good Morning America” host Diane Sawyer. There’s no official word yet on who will replace Diane Sawyer on “Good Morning America,” but rumor has it that Elizabeth Vargas, one-time “World News” anchor and current “20/20″ anchor, is a serious candidate.

Diane Sawyer previously was anchor on “60 Minutes” and “Prime Time Live.”

Charles Gibson’s 35-year career

Charles Gibson first started working for ABC News in 1975. At that time, he was a political reporter. He covered the House of Representatives and the White House, and served as a reporter for “World News with Peter Jennings.”

From there he moved on to host “Good Morning America” before ending up in his spot on “World News,” which he took over in 2006. Charles Gibsaon moderated the 2008 Democratic debate in Philadelphia, and he was first to interview Sarah Palin after it was announced she’d be John McCain’s running mate.

Charles Gibson family life

Now that Charles Gibson is retiring, perhaps he will spend more time with his wife, Arlene, his two daughters, Jessica and Katherine, and his grandchild.

Want to check out Charles Gibson’s Facebook page? Who doesn’t? I have to warn you, though, he has not updated his status since March. Of 2008.

Charles Gibson’s goodbye e-mail

The e-mail that Charles Gibson wrote informing his coworkers of his decision has been published all over. Here it is:

I have always been taught you should never bury the lead _ so I write to tell you that I have told David Westin I want to step down as anchor of World News, and retire from full time employment at ABC News.

It has not been an easy decision to make. This has been my professional home for almost 35 years. And I love this news department, and all who work in it, to the depths of my soul.

I have received much comment, and quite a few emails and letters referring to the signoff Eddie Pinder convinced me to use – wishing that everyone has had a good day. But the proudest part for me has been saying “…for all of us at ABC News…”, since those words signify in my mind that I have been in a position to speak for an entire news department that I consider second to none.

It had been my intention to step down from my job at Good Morning America in 2007 but with Peter’s illness, Bob’s injuries, and Elizabeth’s pregnancy, the job at World News came open in May of 2006, and David asked me to step in as anchor. It was an honor to do so. The program is now operating at a very accelerated, but steady, cruising speed, and I think it is an opportune time for a transition _ both for the broadcast and for me. Life is dynamic; it is not static.

I have told David I would like to continue in some capacity contributing occasionally to ABC News. He has been receptive to the idea – and we will be discussing what that role might be.

You may recognize Tom Sizemore’s face from movies such as “Black Hawk Down,” “Saving Private Ryan,” “Pearl Harbor” or the TV series “Robbery Homicide Division.” Or, if you just like to read crime stories, you might be familiar with his mug shot. He’s been in jail a few times.

Tom Sizemore was arrested last night in Los Angeles on charges of domestic violence. He is still in jail, and his bail is set at $20,000. Some people might be able to use a low rate personal loan to pay their bail, but there aren’t payday lenders out there who’d loan $20,000 to a repeat offender.

From the Los Angeles Times:

Over the last few years, Sizemore, 47, has developed a troubled history with the law. In August 2003 he was convicted of misdemeanor charges of physically abusing and harassing his ex-girlfriend, the former “Hollywood Madam” Heidi Fleiss.

In February 2005 Sizemore failed a court-ordered drug test after he was caught trying to use a prosthetic penis to defeat a urine test and was ordered into drug rehabilitation for two years. In June 2007, after he was arrested outside a Bakersfield hotel on a charge of possession of methamphetamine, Sizemore was sentenced to 16 months in prison for violating probation that stemmed from a January 2006 drug possession charge.

Sizemore was arrested in May on a warrant issued on the 2007 Bakersfield case.

The Washington Post

The Post has additional details on Tom Sizemore’s most recent arrest:

Troubled actor Tom Sizemore has been arrested on charges of domestic violence against his fiance, a police spokesman said on Thursday. Sizemore, who is best known for playing soldiers in the movies “Saving Private Ryan” and “Black Hawk Down,” was taken into custody on Wednesday night at a Los Angeles house after authorities received an emergency call from the nephew of Sizemore’s fiance, police spokesman Chris No said.

What happens when your actor gets arrested?

Tom Sizemore is involved in a lot of different projects right now. Tumor has it he is working on two films that are in pre-production, “Hangar 14″ and “Grace and Danger.” It has also been announced he’ll act in “Wanted Dead,” and “Black Friday” is in production.

So what is a director or producer to do when one of his actors gets thrown in the slammer? Time is money, you know. I wonder if the filmmakers will just find someone else to be in their movies so they can finish them. Then again, Tom Sizemore will likely be out on bail soon and it’ll be a while before the trial. So maybe they’ll just have to kick things into high gear while he’s still a free man.
