The launch date for the Droid Incredible, slated to be Verizon’s new flagship phone, was supposed to be a secret. But now everyone knows that Verizon customers will be able to pre-order the Droid Incredible starting Thursday, April 29. A teaser web site on VerizonWireless.com accidentally went live earlier today but was quickly pulled. But now the cat has been let out of the bag.
Droid Incredible launch confirmed
Sightings of the Droid Incredible have been reported by Droid geeks for some time now. The anticipation has been nearly unbearable for them as they gossip about rumors of its features and release in the blogosphere. But now, because of a communication breakdown within the inner sanctum of Verizon web development, the agony will be replaced by ecstasy as of April 29, when you can whip out your credit card and order the Droid Incredible.
Droid Incredible Google Nexus One matchup
It appears that the Droid Incredible has about the same specs as the Google Nexus One, and Verizon users have been expecting it for a while. The Droid Incredible will have a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor under the hood, accompanied by 576MB RAM/512MB ROM and 8GB of built-in internal storage. It will also have the same 3.7-inch AMOLED display, with 480×800 pixels. As with the Nexus One, the Incredible will run Android 2.1.
Droid Incredible improves Android Platform
The biggest difference between the two devices will be that the Droid Incredible runs HTC’s revised Sense UI, according to Eric Zeman at Informationweek.com. Zeman said the newer version of Sense makes using the Android platform a seamless and much more enjoyable experience. The improvements of HTC’s custom overlay include better social networking support and more powerful screen switching tools. The Sense UI was confirmed in the screen shot posted by Verizon Wireless on the teaser site before it was shut down.
Droid Incredible: point and shoot performance
Other Droid Incredible features revealed on the short-lived Verizon site include a hefty 8 megapixel camera with autofocus and flash, meaning the Droid Incredible could save you from getting a personal loan for a new digital camera. Other Droid Incredible goodies include GPS, digital compass, proximity sensor, light sensor, Bluetooth 2.1, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and a 3.5mm headset jack.
Droid Incredible: the Droid killer
It didn’t take long before Verizon password-protected the Droid Incredible teaser site. it featured a large image of the Droid Incredible, along with information that included the April 29 launch date. But unless you were lucky enough to catch Verizon with their pants down earlier today, you’ve been shut out. But you can expect Verizon to revive the site before too long, along with the requisite advertising blitz urging you to chuck your Droid, get a cash advance and order the Droid Incredible.
