What is the first thing you notice when you look in the mirror? Perhaps it is your hair or another part of your appearance. But how do you feel when you smile?

If you notice other people’s smile you can be sure they can notice yours, too. So if this is important to you, you need to take good care of your teeth. If you do, your grown-up teeth can last a lifetime, the way they were designed to . Your teeth help you chew, speak and support your cheeks and lips.

You can protect your teeth

One way you can protect your teeth is by having good dental hygiene practices. There are many vitamins that help with the development of teeth, even before you are born. This is one of the reasons that prenatal vitamins are important to the unborn as well as the mother. A well-balanced diet with plenty of nutrients will help with maintaining healthy, beautiful teeth. Too much sugar can cause tooth decay and cavities, which can seriously harm the teeth.

Good hygiene habits and regular checkups

It is very important to brush your teeth in the morning, before bed and after each meal. Bacteria and plaque can break down the enamel on your teeth by feeding on the sugar and debris from food, which then turns into a harmful acid that starts the decaying process. Plaque, if left unchecked, can also damage the gum area because of plaque hardening.

Floss your teeth

It is important to floss your teeth, and a dentist can show you how this can be done properly. Taking these steps can help your teeth remain healthy and possibly avoid extensive dental procedures that would eventually be needed if you don’t take care of your teeth now. Even though it can be scary and uncomfortable to go in for a checkup, it is more painful to let your teeth go unchecked. If you need help with dental care costs and you are short on funds, it may be wise to consider getting a short term loan or an installment loan to get the needed repairs done so more damage does not occur.
