The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced that GE is recalling 174,000 dishwashers because of a manufacturer’s defect that can cause a fire. GE Profile and GE Monogram dishwashers are under scrutiny in this recall.

GE dishwasher recall subjects

According to the CPSC, a manufacturer’s defect exists that makes certain GE Profile and GE Monogram dishwashers unsafe. Water condensation can drip into the electronic control board, which can create a short circuit that results in an overheated connector. Fire can be the result.

GE Profile dishwashers made between July 2002 and December 2005 are subject to the GE dishwasher recall, as are GE Monograms manufactured from January 2004 through December 2006.
