Since the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell repeal by courts, there has been a lot of controversy. Intervention into military affairs was a sore subject when it first passed. The overturn of DADT on constitutional grounds by Judge Virginia Phillips has caused a lot of people to voice the same objection. There is not one good reason for Republicans or anyone else to keep the DADT policy in place.

Civil rights being looked at with Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell

Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell is obviously a civil rights issue. It is ridiculous to deny that. The Republican party used to be very concerned about individual liberties. Republican Abraham Lincoln was responsible for freeing the slaves. In fact, it was the Log Cabin Republicans who brought the suit against DADT in the first place.

DADT contains a lot of money to be saved

The military is paid for by the public. Our troops are paid with tax dollars, and if there is one issue that unites most Republicans and like-minded independents, it is fiscal conservatism. Money will be saved when the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell discharges don’t have to be investigated anymore. It will save millions. That will add up to a lot over the years. Investigations for DADT have cost a lot of money to the taxpayers, USA Today reports. In fact, by 2006 they had already cost more than $360 million.

Then there’s the Tea Party

Fiscal practices and financial conservatism are important to the growing Tea Party movement, too. Ending the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy will do a lot. Millions of dollars can be saved and it will protect the rights of our citizens who have been treated poorly. There is no excuse for making a second class citizen of anyone, especially people who put their lives on the line for our country.
