A 2009 film by talk-show host and director Alex Jones, “The Obama Deception,” is a two-hour DVD that has recently been re-released on YouTube. “The Obama Deception” claims to track the lies within the U.S. Government and plans of the “New World Order.” Some have called “The Obama Deception” a movie of ultimate truth, and others call it nothing but an invalid conspiracy theory.

The basic argument of ‘The Obama Deception’

“The Obama Deception” makes many arguments within the two hour length of the film. The basic crux of the argument is that President Obama is “a hoax carefully crafted by the captains of The New World Order… the international banks plan to loot the people of the United States and turn them into slaves.” The soundbites and arguments used to support this conclusion throughout the movie focus, mostly, on the banking and financial reforms undertaken by President Obama since taking office.

The financial claims of ‘The Obama Deception’

“The Obama Deception” claims that international banks are organizing various plots. Because the near-failure of the banking system and global recession are huge in the minds of most Americans, this is an easy villain to pick. Other Alex Jones films, though, have claimed that this organization — referred to as the “New World Order” — is set up by the Masonic brotherhood, by China and Gorbechev, by FEMA, by the United Nations, even by “America and England.” In short, if the global financial system is truly the head of the “New World Order,” as Jones claims, this is a change from his other movies, shows, and interviews.

Following the money

Along with most other conspiracy theories, “The Obama Deception” asks you to “follow the money.” It is important, though, to do the exact same thing on both sides. Alex Jones is a wealthy talk-show host, movie producer and author. About once a year for the last few years, Alex Jones has requested a “money bomb” on his website. These “money bombs” tend to net about a quarter-million dollars, and each year the goal is the same, yet it never seems to be reached:

“Alex will use this money to build a studio, a sound stage, purchase cameras and equipment, computers, expand office space and hire additional staff. Alex hopes to launch a new television show on the Dish Network, thus reaching thousands, possibly millions of additional people…”

Is ‘The Obama Deception’ right?

There are hundreds, if not thousands of individual arguments within “The Obama Deception.” In the end, it is very important to carefully research all claims both for and against any argument. No matter what you believe, taking all arguments in financial, social and political context will give you a more complete view. There are many quotations and statistics in the movie that are, at best, incredibly questionable. It is best to take “The Obama Deception,” along with all other conspiracy theory or “questionable truth” theories, with a big grain of salt.

Alex Jones is building a new studio, in the process of moving right now I think. And "The Obama Deception" was the #1 Google Trend yesterday. Grain of salt, no way, it is much more truthful than that.
