For runners in the Pacific Northwest and for much of the nation, it is the running season, and Bloomsday is a celebration for those runners. Bloomsday is held the first Sunday in May in Spokane, Wash., and right after the race, Bloomsday race results are hotly anticipated. Bloomsday is arguably the largest 12k road race in the U.S. I say arguably because Bay to Breakers, held the third Sunday in May in San Francisco, also makes the same claim. Largest or not, Bloomsday was held today. Running is a terrific sport because no Personal Installment Loans or Same Day Loans are required to participate, nor to pay the small race entry fees.
Looking for Bloomsday Race Results
Personalized results postcards will be mailed to registered finishers of Bloomsday 2010 in the days following the run. If you can’t wait for those results, The Pacific Northwest Inlander will be distributed on Tuesday, May 4, with the complete Bloomsday 2010 results, including each finisher’s name, time and how they placed. You can also go online to the Bloomsday website to see results by Tuesday afternoon, May 4.
Bloomsday History
The first Bloomsday run was May 1, 1977, in Spokane. This year celebrates the 34th run of the 12k road race. Started by Don Kardong, an Olympic Marathon runner and Spokane resident, it was originally advertised, “Run With the Stars” because of Kardong’s participation as well as other Olympians Frank Shorter and Herm Atkins. The stars continue to run Bloomsday as well as elite athletes who travel from all over the world to compete.
This year, two-time Bloomsday champion Lineth Chepkurui of Kenya attempted to win her third consecutive title, which has only been done by a woman twice before. Moroccan star Ridouane Harroufi graced the running field, while running legend Joan Samuelson also joined in the race. There’s also an elite wheelchair division as well as regular runner, joggers and walkers. Did you run? How did you do? How did the elite runners do? It was another huge success! We(our group) always have so much fun doing this race. It is also so well organized . Everything flows so well. And the weather, what a gorgeous day to add ato it all.
