An oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Louisiana has spread to cover more than 1,800 square miles as of Monday afternoon. Gulf of Mexico oil spill update here. The oil spill is coming from a leak in the well that was drilled by the Transocean Deepwater Horizon, a giant offshore drilling rig that exploded and sank last week. The oil spill is reported to be leaking about t 42,000 gallons a day from a well nearly a mile deep. The U.S. Coast Guard has been using robot subs to try to stop the leak.

The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is expected to remain about 30 miles offshore, based on an analysis of ocean currents and weather patterns. In a statement Monday, the Coast Guard warned states along the Gulf Coast to be on alert. The oil rig that burned and sank was drilling a well about 50 miles off the Louisiana coast, putting that state’s shoreline at the highest risk.

Oil spill response

To prepare for the oil spill, which the Coast Guard said my reach landfall sometime Tuesday, Louisiana has begun spending money now on oil spill response, installing containment booms around environmentally sensitive areas. The Associated Press reports that Alabama has also mobilized oil spill response to prevent damage when the oil slick makes landfall. The Coast Guard said it’s spending extra cash on 15 specially designed skimming vessels, which had collected 48,000 gallons of oil-water mix by Sunday. Aircraft have been dumping dispersant chemicals to break down the oil.

Oil spill disaster fears come true

An oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico was one of the greatest fears When the Deepwater Horizon exploded and sank. The New York Times reports that the well is leaking its liquid cash today from the “riser.” The riser is a 5,000-foot-long pipe extending from the wellhead on the ocean bottom that was connected to the drilling platform. Now detached, the riser is kinked like a garden hose. The leaks are at the sea floor, and officials believe the kinks are preventing an even worse gusher of oil from escaping. Before the platform sank, a geyser of oil and gas shot from the riser to create a giant plume of flame and black smoke.

Oil spill cleanup

To contain the oil spill, the Coast Guard aims to have robotic subs activate a 450-ton valve at the wellhead 5,000 feet deep that could possible seal the well. However, it’s possible that this valve, which was designed to prevent sudden pressure releases that led to the explosion that sunk the platform may not work. As a contingency, BP has dispatched two rigs to the area that could drill relief wells. Officials estimated that this strategy, drilling down to the cavity of oil and gas and pumping it full of  mud and concrete, could take two months.

At this rate, The New York times said, the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, at a rate of 42,000 gallons of oil a day, would have to continue for 262 days to match the 11-million-gallon spill in Alaska’s Prince William Sound from the Exxon Valdez in 1989, the worst oil spill in United States history.

    Daniella~ 14 year old girl…

  9. Daniella says:

And some of you guys are acting like its Obama's fault for the unemployment rate. umm excuse me, but the unemployment rate was screwed up BEFORE Obama came in. So complaining about how "Obama's not doing anything to help' the U.S is very hypocritical, considering the fact that were just siting back, complaining and doing absolutly nothing. While PRESIDENT BARRACK OBAMA! is probably working his ass off, trying his best , while all of you just hate on him for no reason what so ever. I personally love Obama and i think hes doing the best he can.. because trying to please people who just shoot him down is a very hard thing to do..and you ll ARE NOT HELPING THE MATTER!!! …plus you all are probably grown not to mention the fact (Imature), while all this is coming from a 14 year old girl…

  10. Daniella says:

Firsts of all , Obama is our President! and using the Sceenname 'OBAMASUCKS' is really disrespectful. Not to rain on your parade, but i dont think its Obama who sucks.. im, really tired of people talking bad about Obama. Honestly people are too judgemental. Obama has nothing to do with the oil rig exploding. So lets just concentrate on the cleanup of this oil spill, instead of who to blame for it because, blaming someone, wont make it go away.

  11. Bre says:

we should be helping those animals out it should be top priority!!! It is a real shame that this even happened it makes me really mad because the situation for animals starting to disappear into extinction is gonna start happening a lot quicker then any one thought unless people start helping to help them!

  12. ashley says:

obama is my daddy i love him but this oil spill sucks

BP vs. the people takes place in New Orleans in Sept., that will tell the tale. Follow the money

  19. Lindsey says:

I think it’s so funny how some of you people are calling Americans dumb for this disaster. Had the companies followed proper policy and the inspections been up to date the rig wouldn’t have ‘accidentally’ caught on fire, exploded, killed 11 inocent people doing their jobs, and leaked millions of gallons of oil into our Gulf. This is simply a disaster due to BP not wanting to dish out the money for correct protocol. BP is a huge fluke, and the CEO of that company can burn. That’s why they are planning on changing the name of their company back to Amoco? C’mon people…they are losing hundreds and thousands of dollars from this huge disaster, and still are going to be known as greedy companies that AREN’T doing everything they can to stop this oil. You people need to stop arguing and talking crap about Americans, because what are you going to do when these thousands of gallons of oil start to wash up on your shores and beaches thousands of miles away from where the oil originally spilled? Start the clean-up, and get it done.

  20. cemelle says:

i feel sad about the oil spill and the explosion ppl need to learn that somethings can happen. obama is trying his best to make sure ppl have a ppl to stay that was affected by the oil spill.

  21. karthik says:

Very pity of Aqua livings !!!

  22. kzeppos says:

well, americans fighting all over the world,

    destroying humans and human relations,

    now destroying beautifull nature,

what kind of people are you ?????????

    • mara says:

It is not necessary to have a good English to realise something very bad happened. I just think that I know a lot of American people. All of them very nice, intelligent and smart. The whole countries have the same kind of people, but reply a comment criticizing someone’s knowledge about the language….hmm fortunately I haven’t met this kind of American yet!

    • cemelle says:

what do yew mean what kind of ppl are we it happens all the time to everyone and everybody

  23. Sara says:

    learn some english andy -_-

  24. Mar says:

Oh, and if they spend billions of dollars on war year after year, i think they have plenty of funds to help what’s going on here.

  25. Mar says:

Obama is a puppet, hes controlled by million dollar corporations.Hes told what to do, how to run things and what to say. This oil spill is destroying so many species of animals and wildlife it's disgusting. At this rate i believe the people should do something to save our water and the animals. People need to come together and help this disaster!

  26. Carlie says:

Well, all humans are selfish, all of them, they have to have the best of everything or nothing at all. God keeps on forgiving and forgiving and forgiving, for our actions that we promise to quit doing, but yet we STILL DO THEM. Humans are liars, cheats, they are a disease brought to this earth, but yet god still loves them. This oil spill is a warning from god, if humans keep on doing what they are doing, i cant even imagine what is to come. The end of times is coming, and nobody can do absolutely anything about it. The only thing we can try to do is to not ruin the earth on our way out. Oops, too late.

    • DAISY LOVEGOOD says:

why do humans have to crap every thing up . everything was balanced and we came and rewined it we dont have the right to destroy what is a amazing and rare planet but its to late now….

      nice one guys!

      xox

    • Fabian Mcgibbon says:

      not really.

  27. andy718 says:

I would not say that it's Obamas foult,I mean what can he do…there is no machinery in the world that can clean the spill in a day or two like some ppl think.

Saving wild life is very crutial, the images speak for themselves.(it's really hard to watch)

  28. Ray Thompson says:

    Ray says,

Getting to the bottom of this problem is not a simple thing.

When you consider all the other very important issues involving the people of the United States.

Yes we can, go ahead and think that we're simply going to solve this problem in our own strength, that somehow Mr Obama is going to come riding in on his horse and rescue the people from all the wrong things we do.

Every one of us makes choices daily that has contributed to this disaster.

There is a GOD in heaven that has been clearly watching everything that we do,and must pass the consequences on to each of us for our efforts in dealing not only with this crisis but the many that this country faces.

There are other disasters in our society that many people including Mr Obama that are simply being ignored.

What about our children, the drug problems, murder, the financial crisis, in every area of society we are failing and going down like a drunken sailor.

We have removed GOD and HE will remove us!

    Jeremiah 17:10.

I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct, according to what his deeds deserve.

You can start praying and asking GOD #1 for forgiveness, and than the grace to repent of your ways with the promise of real heart devoted change.

    2 Chronicles 7:14.

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from there wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive there sin and will heal there land.

  29. Gracie says:

I don't think that this is Obama's fault, but instead of talking about fixing it isn't helping anything. This is ruining the ecosystem completely. I don't give a crap about BP losing money and oil, I care about living and I care about the animals living. Maybe BP will care when we all have to live in a bio dome. lets all adopt a fish from the gulf until this is fixed!!!

    • Lisa says:

So i dont think this is Obama's fault. If the oil companies had a back up plan this would all go very smoothly and could have been contained earlier.

  30. dk6od says:

stupip…………………you can blame the govenment, bp or anybody else but the truth is that humans are stupid and keep doing stupid things to keep up with their lifestyles, we`re all responsible, since the day you were born you have been using all types of things manufactured with oil and many other materials that we have been taking from the earth throughout human history, humans are the worst plague that has lived on the face of the earth and we still dare to claim that we are intelligent, just pure rubish, that´s what we are, some are trying to "make a difference" by trying to use alternate ways of energy, fuels and many other "earth friendly" products, dont be stupid, if you are human and live in any place of the world and live in a civilized comunity you are part of the problem, unless all the greedy bastars that rule the world stop selling their sh*t and we stop buying it the world will never change and we will go down the drain, so don`t fool yourself, this is just a small consecuense of our greedeness, we can try to solve it and it will help, but the 0 hour is getting closer, and what are you going to do whe you have it in front of you, not eve all the gods that mankind has will save you from your stupid actions……….

    • katerina chatzopoulo says:

      you are so right!

as human beings we are already so responsible of what is going on. if my word has a meaning (because i ve lived in these regions) do something ( i wish i could). i am so sorry to call my self a human been not only for that but for zillions other reasons.

  31. hi says:

Dude it was an accident stop fighting and HELP IT!

  32. hgr says:

where is our Epa they have not done a damn thing

  33. Hans Langer says:

Well, one sees were free capitalism leeds to. I find it interesting that the US population is all up in arms against BP. Noboday is taking the moment and reflect on the reason why this many platforms are necessary in the first place. One of the major reasons is the over-proportional need of the US for cheap energy. Maybe one should think about this fact and get to grips with using less energy, e.g. house insulation, fuel efficient cars instead of pick-ups and SUVs, less air-condition.

Taking that into consideration there is also a good part the US citizen's responbsibility that this catastophy happened.

    • Aldo says:

Nobody could be insensitive to the oil spill disaster in the Gulf of Mexico

and I send my deapest condoliances to yhe families of the eleeven people killed. I would like however to remind the people of the USA about the disater created by Shell in the Niger Delta affecting tho Ogoni People and anothe dister even bigger by Union Carbide in Bhopal India which killed Thousand of people and still affect some of the newborn even to this day.

  34. kade says:

Its a dumb thing to do when you say "stop offshore drilling" bucause when you think of it British Petroluim is trying thier best to stop this the olny reason this happend is because an accidential fire and theres no way to stop a fire on an oil rig so dont go giving BP a hard time bucause thier trying thier best.

    • Andrew says:

One of the dumbest comments heard, ever.

      • Andrew says:

Better yet, explain your concept of fair value and acceptable pollution to the effected locals, primarily including the ecosystem and life within it oil saturated greedy mess.

  35. Mags says:

So many arguments on here, why argue? Ignore the ignorant and try to find a solution.

  36. mahamadou says:

ture but wat if someone was trying to let the oil be able to spread all trough the world

    • ChinGia says:

I understand hurricane season officially opens tomorrow. Let's hope they get it cleaned up before hurricanes push that whole mess onto the shore.

  37. brooke13 says:

y would bp keep goin they shoulld hand the job over to people who know what their doing and have better ideas to stop the spill.

    • stosn says:

They need to stop talking so much and get the JOB DONE!!!!!!!

      • Steven Tarlow says:

I agree. What we hear in the news is that one style of treatment is used, and if it is unsuccessful – which all attempts have been up to this point, despite what that one Coast Guard Admiral may or may not have said – they they say "next week" or "next month," they'll try something else. I'm sure the logistics of organizing a "stop the spill" mission are tremendous, but why does so MUCH time have to pass between efforts?

  38. mahamadou says:

Miss shawty you ur the stupid one pretty birds fishs sharks and people are dying because the oil in the water yes peple are dying because people can swallow the oil in the water

  39. miss shawty1 says:

why u guys care bout stuipd oil

    • Steven Tarlow says:

If you were a bird or a fish and oil was saturating where you lived and hunted, maybe you wouldn't think it was so stupid, miss shwaty1.

    • hannah says:

u don't care! There is freshwater waiting to be destroyed by the oil 2

    • Susii says:

Well some people live in mexico and thee was workers in there do you not care wow ill sure be laughting when you die… and so will the fishes that are dying

    • Sarah says:

How stupid are you? That oil is contaminating bodies of water, washing up on beaches, killing and making more species extinct by the day. And guess what? That is also going to affect us. So, if you don't care about the millions, maybe billions, of lives this has already taken, start to get ready for the consequences you will face. Naiive, stupid, uneducated, selfish. You are the definition of a person that we do not need on this planet. Why don't you go swimming in the Gulf and help us all out? Douchebag.

      • kathryn says:

okay guys ,i dont know how old u are but me i cant do anything about it cause i am in middle school. but i will do what i can . so we need to pray that it will take care of of it self . we are thinking that omg ..omg but just chill and no one needs to be calling people names. and it is just a mistake not saying that we are not going to suffer but i am sdaying that we are doing alot but othere people need to help cause it is not going to efffect us it is going to efect everyone

      • Dee says:

Way to go, it really is amazing how stunned some people are.

      • sofia says:

        you are awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • nyreese says:

Because the oil is spreading and if it spreds to florida all the native animals will die. and if it hits the ocean it will spread all over the world. thats why we care!!!

    • tree hugger says:

gee idk maybe because its killing everything in the ocean and getting all over our beaches and ruining floridas tourism and economy!!!!!!!!!!! god your stupid! its totally messing up the balance of nature.

    • Shoshan says:

      Girl,

      Ms Shawty

you shouhld thinka about others you stupid loser.

      • Shoshan says:

        Yes that is very correct.

Haha ms shawty, geta life and stop commenting onthis :pppp

    • Krissss says:

ur so mean its not just oil its killing milloins of animals and can affect our world just cause if u dont live near the shore doesnt meaan u dont have to care.

    • save_the_wurld says:

miss shawty1, how can ne1 be so ignorant? A 10 yr old wouldn't be so ignorant. I'd like to bring 4ward to you all, that this is not a good sign. More things will come our way (an bad ones) if we don't make a change. We just keep on grumbling & arguing… but not doing! We must DO! that must be our motto. Humans… what can we say? We are just natural disasters. But there's always a solution for every problem. We just have to find it. miss shawty, i can't believe you don't know the seriosnes of this problem!!! It is a world wide problem and you say no big? Oh come on! I'm not even in uni yet. This is un accountable. This is unfair. We must do.

    • LiLi934 says:

why are you loafing its not a joke

    • eleanore says:

if you dont care why would you be reading about it and commenting?

    • raffi zeytounian says:

      cuz were awsome

  40. Brandon Gurney says:

Look, everyone is moaning about those il spills but we dont need to find who is fault just do help and clean it and end when we done then find who did that……. it very horrid news. And sad news too. DONT WORRY WE WILL BE OK.

  41. gasher says:

    stop off shore drilling

    • Sandra says:

      JUST HOW BRAINS?

    • Randy says:

you know everybody crying to stop drilling. ok lets do it and you will have at lease a couple more million people out of work and i hate to say it but you would be walking . Bp is working there ass off stopping this and this is a first for them in a mile deep of salt water . So stop setting on your butt and crying and do something i'm sure they would like some idea's

  42. Linnie Bair says:

    this is horrible.

someone needs to go and help those animals out

    :/

  43. erin ackerson says:

okay, this is sad for daaa animaaalls but , people needa be careful wit the oil ! ELIE SAYS YOOO .

  44. Listen Well says:

Ok, this is really bad. I mean we let this go on it could kill entire ecosystems! Have you heard about the hair? They are now collecting hair and are going to make mats to soak up the oil. I hope it works because if it doesn't we will be in big trouble. Try and make a difference in your world, inform your self and find a way to help! There is so much oil leaking out I mean come on we have to stop this! We have to!

  45. Brad says:

Oh just send all the oil to Santa Barbara We are running low since Exxon dumped the blow out they had. The birds are back and need killing… People are letting their dogs run on the beach and that needs to stop!!! I went for a walk on the sand and did not even have to take the tar off my feet the other day!!! What is this world comming to? I might even get to eat some local sea food soon!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats just insane…. so just send us the oil.. WE NEED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  46. Listen and listen go says:

Ok. The oil spill is very "tragic" I might say, but we should all get out heads out of the government. We should not rely on GOVERNMENT to do everything for us. Then we lose out life. (human rights) and to who ever says it's Obama's fault, Go cry me a river. It's BP's! THEY should be the ones who get off their butt and pay for all the damage. And this global warming garbage is head over heels. ONE thing the dinosaurs, hot right? They died out, the Ice Age! It melted, it froze. AND GUESS WHAT! It melted. No people to pollute then. Not our fault, it's the Earth. MOTHER EARTH. IT IS A CYCLE HERE! We need to be concerned about this and this only! Don't you think the should of already know how to fix this! You will see me on the news by this time next year! Going around the globe, meeting with leaders, and fixing this world. The I will be future president by time I turn 38 or so, but now, I'm just a 12 year girl, leaving comments on all websites, news websites she can. But now, I'm just trying to meet with the people at the capital in my state.

  47. Dani Speegle says:

People should not be concerned about who's fault the oil spill is, we should all be concerned about the effects this is going to have on the environment. this is a huge catastrophe, which effects people, plant, and animal. The environment is already suffering from the major climate change, the pollution that is dumped everyday, and now this. We are tearing our world apart and many, don't seem to care. For those that are saying this is Obama's fault, are either completely oblivious to the facts, or have an IQ of a rock. the regulations of past presidents who had no care for the earth and it's creatures are at fault. however, fault is not something we should concern ourselves with right NOW. we should be solving the problem, ensuring it doesn't happen again, try to save what we can, and educate who we can.

    • Steven Tarlow says:

Dani, I have to say I both agree and disagree with your statement. It's a given that the damage to the environment is catastrophic. There simply is no magic wand that's going to quickly fix the horror that has been unleashed here, whether it's a dome or people who clean the shores, animals and plants. It will take decades, and it should be top priority.

But if you're saying it's not important to find the responsible parties, I say hogwash. That's the exact attitude that will allow those who have skated on profits without any real concern for the Earth to escape justice as they have for years.

    • Maxxell says:

Look, I can't say that you are wrong, but the fact that this cleanup will take an extremely long time is punishment enough. We don't need to concentrate on who is at fault right now because if we don't do something NOW and prevent the environment from getting more screwed, we are going to get screwed. This is going to affect EVERYTHING. The prices on fish are going to skyrocket; Canada gets most of its fish from the gulf of Mexico and the demands are going to far outweigh the amount we are able to supply. Vacations are going to suffer, and eventually this is going to become the entire world's problem. It will be more difficult to clean this water because it is laced with oil and to make it worse, for the next however long the cleanup will take, there will be oil washing up on shores of beaches. Not a comforting thought, is it? Right now, set your mind on the NEEDS for the environment, not the people who have an IQ of a rock.

      • Steven Tarlow says:

Maxxell, allow me to clarify. The environment should be the first concern. I'm not suggesting we simply spend valuable time pointing fingers; that would be juvenile. However, it would also be juvenile to assume that we can't walk and chew gum at the same time. The cleanup must commence with all thoroughness. The guilty must be held accountable so that the even cannot be repeated in the future. If the government doesn't take appropriate action to regulate (and stop accepting the bribes), it WILL happen again. Then we'll start the whole machine over again.

      • Maxxell says:

My point being, is that the oil companies won't learn from this. The problem is that they always want more than we need. They take more an more from the earth and they aren't satisfied. Eventually, BAM! SCREWED. It will happen again, maybe not as severe, but unless the government puts strict regulations on how much they can drill for, then we will get screwed AGAIN by the same thing.

      • Steven Tarlow says:

Maxxell, you've got it. Neither party (big oil or the government) will learn anything unless their feet are held to the proverbial fire. Corporations don't change unless they're hit where it hurts (in the wallet), while governments tend to make changes at a glacial pace as something resembling consensus gradually begins to appear on the horizon. This will happen again until we 1) Get away from using fossil fuels 2) Regulate big oil so that they are forced to build something as simple as an easy-to-reach on/off switch 3) Achieve complete transparency in government, so we know where politicians are getting their money from, and how much

      • Andrew says:

These human errors should be severely accounted for. Including the stopping of off-shore drilling until a significantly safer procedure has been implemented. Furthermore to hell with the BP shareholders whining about their dividend payout. It ALL and more goes back to the cleanup efforts and to salvaging this disgusting human oil mess. Saying it again. Human waste should be accounted for.

      • Listen and listen go says:

I think you know what your saying. But think through again! As Ghandi always said, "An eye for an eye, just makes the whole world blind." And as I say fauts give you oppertunity. Just like the oil spill.

  48. Matthew says:

This doesn't make this all Obama's fault, I'm not saying Obama's completely right. The oil spill was caused when the oil rig blew the ruptured pipes sent gas flowing. What did Obama have to do with this. I am talking to Steven Tarlow. =P

    • SteveT says:

Matthew, not sure why it was necessary for you to stick a tongue out at me, but I'll choose to turn that frown upside down and assume you were flirting with me.

In other news, if you're talking who LITERALLY caused the oil spill, of course it wasn't Obama or any other individual president, oil company employee or man in the moon. The equipment was faulty. HOWEVER, the reason faulty equipment and lackadaisical security measures are allowed is because oil companies will do as little as the government requires… it's about saving money so they can make MORE money. If the government doesn't FORCE oil companies to do more, they will not do more. Public sentiment is important, but big companies typically don't make changes unless such changes are in their financial best interests. If the government hits them with penalties and higher taxes, don't you think that would change the way they do things?

Big oil doesn't want governmental pressure. So the money flows from them into the coffers of politicians. Call it lobbying, call it buying them off, call it a wasted vote for elected officials that cave – you can call it whatever you want.

Do those of you blaming Obama for this….. really? I mean REALLY?! Haha you are all regards.

  50. OBAMASUCKS says:

It doesn't matter if there was an oil leak THE WORLD IS GOING TO END IN 2012!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

    • Darian2400 says:

you are retarded the world is not suppost to end just because of some religious calender so dont worry about it

    • Listen and listen go says:

You, why you, know nothing. As StevieT says, the IQ of a rock. 2012 is RETARDED!

    • baby doll says:

like your name but if u read the bible you might understand that the world could end 2morrow or next week soo… dont say it WILL end in 2012 this aint obamas fault DANG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i dont like obama but people shouldnt say its his fault!!!!!!!!!

  51. Tony G says:

We are not going to be able to clean this mess its to late. Obama is at fault the goverment going to pay for all of this and instead of the oil compony paying for this they are just going to get a slap on the wrist. they should be shut down. the regulators of safety for that company and what ever retard that passed the inspections should all do life in PRISON or death penalty! im not a enviromentalist but this is wrong! No way can this company help the problem besides they already stated that they done all they could.

We should over throw our goverment before they kill us all!

    • Steven Tarlow says:

Tony, this is a situation where singling out one president misses the point… how long has America had oil companies that drill, oil companies that ship oil via tanker, etc? It's been going on for a while… and governmental regulation has never been good enough. Both the oil companies and the politicians over the years who have accepted their "campaign contributions" are at fault.

  52. Sarah says:

It's gonna take years of work to clean that up. It might even wash up on the shore. NObody's going to come to the beach!!!

    • Steven Tarlow says:

Sarah, it's going to take decades, and even then, the impact upon the ecosystem will probably always be visible. And I agree with you… who would want to go there? It will be disgusting for a long time.

  53. melanie says:

I think this has been the biggest catastrophe in my lifetime and im only 10!

    • Daniel says:

hello, melanie omg u gotta be kidding me what about 9/11, the war in afganistan, the global financial crisis gosh! they all happened in your lifetime and there is heaps more like poverty issues but still it is pretty bad

  54. Naomi Setah says:

    manye this isnt good.!!

  55. alan says:

    it was the commies!!!!!

  56. Lynn D. says:

This catastrophe is obviously a preview of things to come:

"Unless those days had been cut short, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short." Matt 24:22

    • Steven Tarlow says:

Oh yes, obviously. It's interesting how people can pick and choose which scripture to apply in any given situation that could be vaguely deemed apocalyptic. How about Deuteronomy 22:28-29, while you're at it, Lynn. From the New Living Translation: "If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father. Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he will never be allowed to divorce her." Jesus may have cleared that one off the books when he said "I am the law," but that pronouncement came from God, based on Bible logic. It's nice how He gives the woman a choice in the matter. Loving marriages are the kinds of things that… oh, I don't know… cause OIL SPILLS?

  57. David says:

It appears that the estimates of 42,000 gallons daily could be significantly underestimated.

If the attached source is credible, as of yesterday the spill could already be 6,000,000 gallons and climbing at a rate of over 300,000 gallons daily.

  58. Becca Johnson says:

This is very sad to hear. I hope it can be stopped soon. May God be with the animals in ocean!

  59. kbab777 says:

i believe this was sabotage and I hope the find the envirnomentelist who are responsible and put them in a cell for murder and throw the keys away and take all the keys and cars from their families and never allow any of them to buy gasoline again.

    • Marie says:

I believe that it was sabotage also. Is it just a coencidence that Obama was all for drilling in the Gulf and now this happens. It seems to be just one thing after another. Another issue for everyone to argue about. Good luck to those who live on the Gulf

      • Brionna says:

Are you trying to say this ALL OBAMA'S fault? If so I totally disagree with you!!!!!!

    • Hmm says:

Sabotage? Maybe. Sabotage by an environmentalist? That would kind of defeat the purpose of being an environmentalist wouldn't it?

      • Steven Tarlow says:

You'd think. I think that lack of regulation from the government to enforce safety standards for the oil companies is the real culprit. But should BP have had the foresight anyway and set up a system that could be easily shut off? Yes, they should have. They've proven they don't care about anything other than fast profits. The lack of governmental safety standards isn't the crutch that should carry all the weight here.

    • Hmm says:

why would a envirnomentelist sabotage the well? there for the envirnoment ?

    • tyler kinney says:

an enviromentalist would not do such a thing, u sound like the theorists who thought 9/11 was pre-planned

    • Pinacola says:

You are right however may mother nature be with those poor helpless animals. All because of us, this is humans should stop driveing. All we do is hurt our enviornment. Please help these poor animals do something soon

    • raffi zeytounian says:

  60. Gabriella says:
