‘Dear John’ reviews | If you have nothing nice to say…

… don’t become a movie critic

Dear John reviews Amanda Seyfried

What could be a better way to get in the mood for Valentine’s Day than watching a romantic drama that stars pretty people? According to critics, anything; you’ll be better off avoiding the theaters altogether this weekend.  “Dear John” reviews are out, and even reviews by the (very few) critics who rated “Dear John” as “fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes aren’t very good.

“Dear John” reviews say the film is cliched, old-fashioned, sappy, flat, unrealistic … you get the  idea. They also criticize Amanda Seyfried’s performance as being unconvincing and showing her inexperience. Maybe she should get overnight loans for acting classes?

‘Dear John’ reviews

The Chicago Reader does a good job of explaining the plot in its “Dear John” review:

A goody-two-shoes college student (Amanda Seyfried) falls for a gigantic slab of gorgeous (Channing Tatum), and after he returns to his special forces unit they carry on a long-distance romance through the mail.

The Reader ultimately writes that the movie is tedious, which is a tad nicer than what Tom Long from the Detroit News had to say. He calls the film “a big pile of goop” more than once in his “Dear John” review.

Dead giveaway

What I don’t understand is what would keep people interested in this movie. The title betrays the fact that the two main characters break up, and according to critics it doesn’t even happen that far into the movie. Tom Horgen from the Minneapolis Star Tribune says “Dear John” has a “nosedive ending.”

I read a few days ago that this film’s ending had to be changed at the last minute to “give more of an idea of what would happen,” so I guess there could be a twist at the end. I guess if you love sweet, sappy, sad romances this will be your cup of tea, according to “Dear John” reviews.

I don't care about any of what the critic say either because "Dear John" sounds and look like a really good romance movie.

  2. Michaela says:

I couldn’t agree more. Dear John was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. I have been upset that I wasted my money, my time, and my tears over this movie. It really upset me. The fact that it had such a sweet beginning and all of a sudden it turned into a cruel stomach wrenching, tear jerkier says it all. I was so fed up that it changed so abrupt and left me angry and disappointed.

  3. Peach says:

Well then, sounds like you COULDN’T care less.

  4. Franrose says:

I seriously couldn't care less what these critics have to say. I'm definitely looking forward to this movie, regardless of all the negative reviews I've been reading up on.
