Do you find it as interesting as I do that Rush Limbaugh is bidding to take on ownership of the St. Louis Rams NFL football team? Along with St. Louis Blues NHL hockey team owner Dave Checketts, Rush Limbaugh is part of an ownership group that is making a serious bid to take on the second-division team who won’t even smell the postseason this year. Even with secured loans, they can’t buy a win.

This Has Been Rumored For a While

But now the media is taking it seriously. However controversial Limbaugh’s borderline treasonous comments about plotting against President Obama and hoping he fails have been, it appears that money will talk in the end. Considering that Rush Limbaugh’s net worth is estimated to be over $1 billion, there’s plenty of lettuce to go around. He also is in an eight-year contract with Clear Channel Communications that is worth about $400 million. His annual salary of around $54 million puts him up there in the Donald Trump/George Lucas territory, according to Forbes. That kind of coinage has captured Dave Checketts’ interest.

Owners Don’t Love Rush

Late Rams owner Georgia Frontierre’s 60 percent stake in the Rams is up for bid, but Dave Checketts/Rush Limbaugh money won’t guarantee that they win the auction for the team. Goldman, Sachs & Co have been hired to run the auction. They will in part determine whether Limbaugh’s controversial history in the Monday Night Football booth (including his racially charged criticism of Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb) and bouts with oxycontin will keep that invetor group from winning. Furthermore, there is a large contingent of NFL owners who have voiced concerns over Limbaugh’s bid.

Staying in St. Louis

Multiple media outlets predict that Dave Checketts and Rush Limbaugh would keep the team in St. Louis, considering Checkett’s ownership of the Blue and Limbaugh’s connections to the city. But I imagine that the political affiliation of the Rams would change. Rather than remaining the NFL franchise that contributes the most to the Democratic party ($230,050 in 2008, more than any other team – see this report), I’m sure Rush would like to see that change.

Apply Now!

Is that why he’s interested in owning the Rams? To aid the Republicans? I say that if Democratic ownership candidates need secured loans to keep Rush Limbaugh away from the Rams, they should click on the button and apply now!
