Big Connecticut money set to wrestle with Chris Dodd
When people think of Connecticut Senator Chris Dodd, the first things that come to mind are his attempts to funnel aid into subprime mortgage companies like Countrywide Financial, as well as his connection to the Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac and AIG scandals. For whatever good he has done for his constituency (Family and Medical Leave Act, Credit Card Accountability Act, support of same-sex marriage), he will unfortunately be remembered for the financial scandals. That’s why Linda McMahon may see the time as right to attempt to unseat him in 2010. Oh, Dodd is battling prostate cancer, so a replacement may be necessary.
The “brains behind the brawn”
Linda McMahon, CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment, will resign her corporate position (ceding it to husband Vince McMahon) so that she can run as a Republican in the Connecticut Senate seat race. The Los Angeles Times reports that although she is not as “flamboyant” as her husband, Linda McMahon has been the “brains behind the brawn” of WWE. She’s helped build America’s largest professional wrestling empire and is highly respected on Wall Street. You might think that payday cash advance loans for responsible wrestlers were forthcoming with her at the helm of the WWE.
The McMahons have allegedly been attempting to makeover the WWE into something more corporate and family-friendly, although I still wouldn’t consider it appropriate for the entire family. It has improved from the days when daughter Stephanie McMahon was being featured in what amounted to soft-core pornography during WWE telecasts, but not by much. Rumors exist that either Stephanie or Linda McMahon (or both?) were involved with wrestler Randy “Macho Man” Savage, so Linda’s family-friendly reign hasn’t been without controversy.
Money on the mat
There’s a tremendous amount of money in professional wrestling, and Linda McMahon has been at the helm of the most powerful wrestling organization in America. It’s a $1 billion publicly traded company. Thus, she probably won’t need a great deal of help obtaining campaign funds. She won’t need payday cash advance loans. Plus, the McMahon family has deep ties in Connecticut, so she’s far from an unknown. The Hill predicts that Linda McMahon’s likely opponents for the Republican nomination will be former U.S. Representative Bob Simmons and former U.S. Ambassador to Ireland, Tom Foley. Former Connecticut Governor and Senator Lowell Weicker sits on the WWE board of directors, so it will be interesting to see if he gets involved in the fray.
How will voters react? What’s Linda McMahon’s platform?
Apply Now!This remains to be seen. The violence and drug-related deaths that have plagued professional wrestling in recent years will surely be a part of any political race Linda McMahon is involved in, so how she responds to those issues will play an important role in how she is perceived as a Senate candidate. It will certainly place the national spotlight firmly on Connecticut in 2010.

With Weicker on her board, who in their right mind can think she is a real Republican?
Sorry, Linda. No more RINOs in the Senate.
