Kanye West ruins Taylor Swift’s moment

In Kanye West vs. Taylor Swift, the winner is ... Beyonce!

In Kanye West vs. Taylor Swift, the winner is ... Beyonce!

Judging by the buzz on Twitter and Facebook this morning, this weekend was all about the outbursts. The Serena Williams outburst video is the most-watched clip around right now, but it’s followed closely by Kanye West interrupting Taylor Swift’s speech at the MTV Video Music Awards.

When Taylor Swift won Best Female Video, she was in the middle of her acceptance speech when Kanye West appeared on stage. He took the microphone from her and said “Taylor, I’m really happy for you. I’ll let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time! One of the best videos of all time!”

Just another Kanye West tantrum

A few people out there have predicted that Kanye West will be left needing payday loans after this little stunt ruins his career, but most people assume that this will all blow over shortly. Bloggers and journalists are quick to point out that this isn’t Kanye West’s first awards show tantrum.

Of course, most of his previous awards show tantrums have revolved around the fact that someone else won an award he believed he should have won. This time, he had a tantrum over an award he wasn’t even eligible for on someone else’s behalf. It was apparent that Beyonce was not happy about Kanye West, and she gave Taylor Swift her moment in the spotlight when “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” won Best Video of the Year.

Beyonce gives Taylor Swift her moment

When Beyonce went up on stage to accept the biggest award of the night, she said a quick thank you followed by “I remember being 17 years old, up for my first MTV award with Destiny’s Child and it was one of the most exciting moments in my life. So, I’d like for Taylor to come out and have her moment.”

Taylor Swift came up and said her thank yous, and meanwhile Kanye West was already blogging an apology to her. Yes, blogging. My how times have changed. The L.A. Times posted a screen shot of Kanye West’s blog apology in which he says “I will apologize to Taylor 2mrw.”

Set-up speculation

After all of the various stunts that have been pulled at the MTV Awards, it’s only logical for people to wonder whether this whole thing, which has indeed garnered a lot of media attention, was planned and staged.

However, I don’t think it makes sense for the MTV Awards, Kanye West, Taylor Swift and Beyonce to set this up. Kanye West has had outbursts before that weren’t set up. And why would MTV Awards producers think it was a good idea for a veteran award-winner to interrupt a 19-year-old’s first VMA acceptance speech?

Where is the publicity going?

It is true that Kanye West, Taylor Swift and Beyonce are all getting a lot of attention because of this incident, but that alone isn’t enough evidence to support the theory that the Kanye West, Taylor Swift incident was staged. The one who came out looking the best at the end of it all was Beyonce when she gave Taylor Swift the microphone during her stage time.

It’s tough to believe that Kanye West, after years in the business and putting up with the flack from his previous tantrums, would do something so stupid, but I think that’s exactly what happened. Usually when there’s some kind of setup on the MTV Awards or some other awards show, it’s funny or shocking, but this whole Kanye West, Taylor Swift thing was just awkward. See for yourself.

  1. Ray says:

I love Kanye and what he did was a little ignorant, but it’s not the end of the world! He has the right to say whatever he want to say. Beyonce is his girl, so he said what he believed. Dont everybody do that for their friends. And he is not from Harlem, he is from Chicago

  2. concept says:

    Jay-Z: he was drunk
    ok, sorry Taylor…

  3. federocp says:

    west sucks, pathetic freak !!!

  4. ox says:

alright he apologized so move on already!

  5. Avery says:

i think that Taylors music video was really ahamzing where did Kanye even come from!!! one second Taylor was speechless happy for her award then Kanye comes up and ruins it she didnt even say anthing after he gave the mic back

  6. Radio Lova says:

    Publicity Stunt !
Taylor Swift should be thanking Kanye!

  7. Berry amiee says:

What he did was really spazzy and rude.We think he shouldn’t announce the MTV awards anymore becuase all his tantrums over the past!

  8. Troy says:

I think that stupid a** , should banned for life from ever attending another MTV function. If he can’t act like he was raised with manners….he probably wasn’t. I think he is a Disgrace to musicians everywhere.

  9. jelisa wilson says:

i agree with kanye west beyonce sing was the best of all time everyonce need stop hate on beyonce and her family i like taylor but her sing was not so good to me.

  10. DC says:

This was truly an embarressing moment for all involved. His actions were inexcusable. He should be banned from future award shows. Like his opinion really matters. How does he stack up with his musical career compared to the success of Miss Swift? She is a teenager – he should have gone after his own size. What a bully! One aspect that really has not gotten much attention is taht he also stole the spotlight from Michael Jackson, his supposed “idol”. Instead of talk about the tribute to Michael everyone is talking about this horrible incident. He should dig a hole and crawl in. He is a huge joke and not a very funny one at that.

  11. conceptx says:

yes am a Kanye West fan but what he did am still shocked at and I can’t support, but there is something about Taylor and Beyonce how come they are all dressed in Red when she is invited… the show also seems to carry more weight then not just an award show…
maybe only Kanye and the producers knew about this, then Taylor and Beyonce got involved later… by the way I wan’t so much a Beyonce fan but I think now I like her :)

  12. Toni says:

Without anymore credit for the person lacking class, Beyonce has enough class for both of them and then some!!! Way to go Beyonce! Great job Taylor for showing so much more maturity than he’ll ever have. Congratulations!

  13. Gabrielle says:

Kanye West is truly a Moron! Such a low-class loser that I’ve lost respect for on more than one occasion, however, this lame incident has done it for me! Great music is one thing but great music coming from a total jackass as even Obama put is something I have NO respect for! Shame on Kanye for being his truly ghetto self! He needs to have his success stripped and head back to Harlem where he belongs!!!

  14. Eva says:

i am shocked that this happend buh however someone pulling a stunt no matter wat it is especially on an award show is no surprise! kanye wat the hell was up with that?!

  15. Ed says:

    I’ll go with Barrack Obama’s take…..

    Kanye West is a jacka**.

  16. Sharon says:

Kanye should be ashamed of himself. No one ever questioned Beyonces video but let this girl have her moment in the limelight, she was the winner after all! His desperate attempt of attention was ridiculous.

  17. Marian says:

I’m pretty disgusted with the audience as well. Many were cheering at what Kanye said. They may have agreed, but to stand up and applaud his comment is pretty rude as well.

  18. dave says:

what a jerk! looks like he is having a hard time handling his success. Booz, outbursts…guy needs help.

  19. heather holloway says:

kanye west just is unreal an to do that to some one he just makes me sick,i realy cant stand trash like that but yes they have that every where what can u do it is what it is……

  20. Nicholas Decker says:

I believe his music is great, he just needs some counseling for his drinking.

  21. jo says:

kanye west is old enough to be this young girls father he proved himself yet again to be a complete fool if i was her mum i would have ran on that stage and knocked him out i hope if he wins an award someone does the same to him, i think mtv should take a stand and ban him from next years vmas what a knob

  22. Me says:

Awlhattin, what do you mean his peeps. You better respect the beautiful brown skin folk, because our president is our peeps.and we are the most smartest and most intelligant folks ever. that’s why lazy *** white’s pulled us from africa to slave for yall, cuz yall lazy. and igorant

    • Awlhattin O'Kaddle says:

Yeah!, Your behavior and your accomplishments speak for themselves. I’m thinking, fundamental Moral Bankruptcy. Of course, the towering institutions of culture, scholarship and industry in Africa could prove me wrong. Yes?

  23. Josh says:

I love Beyonce! i guess I should have watched that clip first before I said someone should have defended Taylor, that was a great job, Kanye bro your still a punk

  24. Jessie Martinez says:

All I can say to Kanye is…Kanye, didn’t your mom ever taught you good manners when she was still alive??? I’m sure she’d be VERY disappointed with you with how you treated someone you don’t even know, let alone a teenager! Almost someone twice your age! You are the lowest of all lowest creature that ever existed on this planet! Tsk tsk tsk.. shame on you… To Taylor, you go girl! You are VERY talented! And to Beyonce, thank you for sharing Taylor your moment of acceptance. to Kanye West, you’re an a**hole

  25. Josh says:

Kanye is a punk and someone should have stepped up and defended Taylor. I didnt expect anything different from the MTV music awards, to me its kinda of like a bunch of 30-40 year olds still wishing they were in high school. I mean grow up, have a show about whats important, music and the artist, not some drunk gay “english fellow” or some wana be hip hop artist who never gets to win anything but wants everyone to know who he should have. Kanyya your such a punk, grow the f up.

  26. tiff says:

This was a complete set up. I dont think that Beyonce is as innocent as she would like to appear. It’s obvious when you see the response Taylor gave in an interview when asked about it. Here is a little snippet … “They told me to stand by the side of the stage, and I didn’t really know what was going to go down. But I thought it was so wonderful and gracious of her to do what she’s always done”. Ok, so how did they know Beyonce was going to give Taylor her time? How convenient for them to ask Taylor to stand backstage just before the moon man is given out…all too suspect to me. Both Beyonce and Kanye are *****bags.

  27. Awlhattin O'Kaddle says:

The expression ‘it is what it is’ comes to mind. Kandi West IS just what comes to mind at the very moment you lay eyes on him. As long as his ‘peeps’ applaud him, they will be seen as what they prove themselves to be. There is nothing the rest of us can do about that. It Is What It Is and Yu Be What Yu Be!

  28. Wayne says:

    Kanye West is an idiot….

  29. Franrose says:

This is not the first Kanye West outburst just so you know. What he did to Taylor Swift was low, selfish and very, very disrespectful. It was very humiliating not only for Taylor, but for Kanye as well. He showed his true colors and I’m sure a lot of people out there will never look at him the same after that awful staging. And don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love Kanye’s music. There’s no doubt he is, in fact, a very talented music artist. However, I can’t help but point out how childish he really is. His logic is like a two-year-old’s when it comes to real life issues. And yes, he’s proved that time and time again.

    • Cesar Sanchez says:

what can you expect from gay fish? he’s wack… his beats are the only good he has to offer.
