Orange County California Assemblyman Mike Duvall, 54, has been spanked by the media for his penchant for spanking and having his way with lobbyist Heidi Dejong Barsuglia, 36 (“De Jong” is actually the correct form), and at least one other woman. Now he has resigned his position, effective immediately. Unlike South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford, Mike Duvall apparently has enough dignity to recognize when it’s time to go. If a voice in his head tells him his “work isn’t done” (as Sanford claims happened to him), I’ll assume it means he has more oats to sow. So long as the taxpayers aren’t putting up his salary while he does it and his wife and children are set for a better life away from him first, I don’t have a problem. Wait, what am I saying? I have a big problem with this when there are children involved. People who cheat in these situations are cheating on their children. As you know, Heidi De Jong Barsuglia is a lobbyist who works (worked, I imagine) for Sempra Energy in Southern California. Her previous lobbying work was for the California Retailers Association, from January 1, 2009 through March 27, 2009. They represent over 9,000 retail businesses in the state of California and their sales routinely eclipse $100 billion per year. Two weeks after her CRA gig ended, she caught on with Sempra Energy, a conglomerate that represents Southern California Gas and San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E). This goes to show you that an educated, capable lobbyist will always be in demand. Oh, is she pretty and blonde, too? I hadn’t noticed. I leave that kind of stuff to the Mike Duvalls of the world who want an online cash advance to outfit their hog now and again.

The Orange County Weekly has published allegations that include claims that the “powerful” vice chair of the Utilities & Commerce Committee was regularly seen socializing with Heidi Dejong Barsuglia (see the picture?) after-hours around Sacramento. They went out together, attended fund-raising events together and even shopped for groceries together “just blocks from the capitol building.” Mike Duvall clearly thinks he’s powerful enough to do whatever he wants, but not powerful enough to escape resigning his post.
Power is the operative term here, as Mike Duvall certainly doesn’t sound charming in video footage. A staff member who worked alongside Duvall in the California state capitol in Sacramento put it in plain terms: “He’s old and fat. She’s hot, blonde and about 20 years younger. He could have never gotten a woman like that before he got this job.”
What job is Mike Duvall walking away from?
Duvall’s committee held jurisdiction over public utilities. The California Public Utilities Commission; California Energy Commission and California Independent System Operator are all subject to the committee’s rulings. Electricity, natural gas, wireless communications, various cable systems, international trade, tourism and women and minority business ventures were all fall under the umbrella of the Utilities & Commerce Committee. So yes, I suppose Mike Duvall was powerful. He’ll probably find a consulting job somewhere.

As for Heidi Dejong Barsuglia, I hope she picks up the pieces and does right by her family and children. The road for her will definitely be more difficult. Heidi DeJong Barsuglia should be charged, tried and convicted of both Prostitution and the manipulation of a legislator to abuse the power of his office (the latter is a major felony); Sempra Energy and its principals are all criminally and civilly liable, too.
Duvall should be charged, tried, convicted of the felony of abuse of his office and entering into an act of prostitution, sexual abuse in the 1st degree for sexual battery and after he serves his jail time, he should become a broken man looking for scraps along roadsides. Dying alone of exposure in a sewer is too good for him.
This is the definition of Orange County Corruption – and Duvall along with ex-Sheriff (now felon) Corona is but another of these criminals who betray their constituents for sex and money.
Give it a rest. He is a piece of excrement and needs to be composted. If he is in Orange County in 6 months I'd be shocked.
If he has his insurance business in a month, I'll be shocked.
The way political change is accomplished is to take aim at the worst of the worst and destroy them legally and in the popular press.
Sex is nothing – look at Mark Sanford (as opposed to Spitzer). Beating a woman for your sexual pleasure makes you a sex offender and unemployable and essentially unable to find a place to live – and, you and your face go up on every sex offender registry wherever you go. Good luck, Mike.

But let’s get back to the real problem of political corruption, does anyone think this will get investigated and that things he voted on will need to be affirmed by the remaining members or will nothing happen? Do I hear Tammy Wynette, “Stand By Your Man” playing in the background? I remember not so long ago that other Orange County song favorite, “Stand By Your Tan” (for Tan Nguyen). But that’s another Orange County fool.

You "don't have a problem"??? Like if Duvall was not a "family values" republican, there would be no scandal.
I think we can agree that De Jong was not there for the spankings. She is a professional lobbyist, and she is doing whatever it takes to get the votes for her client — that is plain old poontang politics. The practice is so widespread, Duvall felt quite comfortable discussing his escapades with a colleague in a meeting room.
I think you should have a big problem with that, and it is much bigger than Duvall's family.
Another one bites the dust. It is so embarrassing to explain to your teenagers about the indescretion that goes on in this arena. She is just as bad for allowing him to even touch her. She could have stopped his advances. My God, then he is for family values. I feel sorry for California. Time to vote differently there. Loons.

“Family Values” California state assemblyman representing Orange County, Republican Michael D. Duvall, resigns for apparently not cheating on his wife. Well you have to take his word for it, or maybe believe that hypocrisy has been bred in. In my opinion the Republican Party has been taken over the most extreme religious right (people who love to push their beliefs on others while trying to take away rights of those they just hate) and that’s who they need to extract from their party if they real want to win.
