Lifetime’s new big moneymaker, “Project Runway,”  aired last night, pitting the remaining 14 designers against each other in a surfer wear challenge. The designers paired off into seven teams of two while on a beach, and the magical button bag was back to decide who would be team leaders.

Because Shirin won, she got to choose her teammate first from the collection of designers left after the team leaders were chosen. She picked Carol Hannah, and the pair quietly sailed through the show without incident. They ended up on the other side of Heidi saying “Your scores have qualified you to move on to the next round.”

Things get interesting

Of course I’d rather talk about paycheck loans than the “qualified” contestants on “Project Runway” season 6 episode 3. I know you want the dirt, so here it is. The problem couple was definitely Qristyl and Epperson, who bickered from conceptualization to runway. Heidi agreed it was just a “bad marriage.”

Most of the attention on “Project Runway” season 6 episode 3 went to Ra’Mon and Mitchell, and that’s where the “three strikes” rule came in. Surprisingly, the pair both won and lost the challenge. After Mitchell admitted that Ra’Mon did everything — really, Mitchell stood on the runway and said “Ra’Mon did it all” — Ra’Mon collected the win for making the best garments, and Mitchell got kicked off for doing nothing. Heidi’s explanation was “Three strikes, you’re out.”

Talking about Tim Gunn

A lot of comments were made on the show and on blogs all over the place about Tim Gunn’s beach wear. When the cast of “Project Runway” season 6 episode 3 traveled to the beach, Tim Gunn met them — and he was sporting flip flops and shades! He still wore slacks and a blazer, but I surmise that’s as casual as Tim Gunn ever gets.

I imagine he irons his pajamas, with matching top and bottom, and has matching slippers, different pairs to go with different pajama sets. The designers and the audience were thrilled to see Tim Gunn in flip flops. Clearly, Tim Gunn can do no wrong.

Meanwhile on Bravo

“Project Runway” used to air on the same network as another super popular competitive reality show, “Top Chef,” which brings in more money for Bravo than any other show. On the most recent episode of “Top Chef,” a similar situation to the one on “Project Runway” season 6 episode 3 came up when a chef team ended up halfway on the top and half on bottom.

The “Top Chef” pair Michael and Mike first saw the judges as one of their favorites, and it was revealed that Michael had made the delicious pork belly lettuce wrap that everyone loved. Mike was responsible for the undercooked shrimp salad, and he took a second trip back to talk to the judges as one of the least favorites. Michael won for his dish, and Mike managed to beat Preeti, who went home after defending the pasta salad she made with Laurine.

“Project Runway” season 6 episode 3 definitely provided a lot of twists and turns to keep the audience happy, and a lot of advertizing money to keep Lifetime satisfied. Tune in next week!
