Don’t be a chicken… admit it looks good

When it comes to food, who doesn’t want a taste explosion in their mouth? Good food is one of life’s great pleasures. However, the definition of good food varies wildly from one person to the next. The KFC new sandwich called the “Double Down” may be tasty to many, but there are many who would hesitate to call it “good food” because the amount of calories in one sandwich alone would be enough destroy someone’s budget for the day. Thus, I must offer this disclaimer about the Double Down: While likely delicious, consume them responsibly. You don’t want to be in a situation where emergency cash loans are necessary to pay for your own cardiac defibulation service.

But mmmmm… it does look tasty

Yes, if you’re in a situation where you’re counting calories and using every ounce of your willpower to stay on the straight and narrow when it comes to your diet, the KFC new sandwich is not for you. As you can see in the picture above or the video below, the nifty piece of Kentucky Fried Innovation that sets this creation apart is the absence of bread. It has been replaced by gloriously breaded chicken breasts! Yes, two breasts and a sandwich in between. What guy wouldn’t want some of that action?

What’s in the sandwich proper, you might ask. Well, that would be two slices of bacon, melted slices of Swiss and pepper jack cheese and a generous spread of “the Colonel’s sauce.” I don’t know exactly how special that sauce is, but odds are it isn’t non-fat mayo. Odds are I’ll be overcome by hunger soon, just thinking about this fantastic monstrosity. Give me breasts, bacon, cheese and some saucy sauce and I will get down on my knees and say, “Gimme gravy!” I’ll find a way to slather it on…

On its test drive

According to FOX News, people in Rhode Island and Nebraska are apparently more special… or more prone to gut-busting sandwich creations. That is the test market for the KFC Double Down. I can’t imagine it not taking off, but just in case, I want you to do something for me. Everyone get up, get in your cars, airliners, trains and dirigibles. Or just strap on your walking shoes. Make your way to Nebraska and Rhode Island. Go to KFC and order the Double Down. Let the Sons of Sanders know that the Double Down will be the battle cry for a new obese republic, a hymn to amoebic sacks of flesh with a hankerin’ for bird lumps. Tell those who would stop you that you’re as mad as fowl and you’re not going to take it anymore!

Or don’t. But check out this nutritional info

According to the Vancouver Sun, the calorie count on the Double Down is currently uncertain. KFC’s public relations department indicates the following nutritional information:

Calories: 590
Calories from fat: 280
Total fat: 31g
Saturated fat: 10g
Trans fat: 0g
Cholesterol: 190mg

Staggering stats, right? But that may just be the tip of the iceberg… or a deliberate smokescreen. Independent studies suggest that the KFC new sandwich could cart as many as 1,228 calories!

How about 1,228 calories?

While the Huffington Post and other media outlets have indicated that KFC has not done “an official workup” of the numbers on the Double Down, KFC maintains that the 1,228-calorie estimate is “incorrect.” Whatever the case, it’s safe to say that there are many calories in the KFC new sandwich. Will you consume them?

If you do, here’s some info the Huffington Post unearthed so that you can compare your Double Down with other fast food sandwich choices. If 1,228 calories is correct, the Double Down beats:

  • Wendy’s Triple with Everything and Cheese (1700 mg sodium, 960 calories, 26 gms of fat)
  • Burger King Stacker Quad (1770 sodium, 1020 calories, 69 gms of fat)
  • Compares closely to the fat, salt and calorie totals of three McDonalds Big Macs put together (3060 sodium, 1620 calories, 87 gms fat)

Are you in defib yet? Please, apply for emergency cash loans now! The sorry state of health insurance in this country surely means your policy won’t cover all the damages. Don’t Double Down when it comes to your health… but do Double Down if you’re feeling adventurous. Just do it responsibly, please.
