Most people spend the majority of their lives on dry land, unaware of the excitement and exhilaration that awaits them amongst the clouds or the deep blue waves of Earth’s oceans. To be able to escape the pull of everyday inertia and truly fly is an experience that everyone should experience.

Poet Emily Dickinson put it this way in her “Poem 76″

Exultation is the going
Of an inland soul to sea,
Past the houses — past the headlands –
Into deep Eternity –

Bred as we, among the mountains,
Can the sailor understand
The divine intoxication
Of the first league out from land?

The sailor knows

That divine intoxication is something too few experience, most often for want of courage or financial means. When it comes to the latter, there are temporary ways around that. Payday loans with no faxing and short term loans can be that one push into the air or out to sea that you so desperately crave. Honestly, who doesn’t want to fly, whether it be in the great aquatic universe of through the skies? I would argue that those who fear heights or deep, dark waters are among those who crave to be free of their shackles the most.

But back to money. If you need help learning to fly, we may be able to help you get started. Apply here and see.

Until then, buy a ticket to the Chicago Air and Water Show 2009

It may just be the next best thing, witnessing aerial and on-the-water speed and freedom, and Chicago would love to have you. According to sources affiliated with the event, The Chicago Air and Water Show is “the largest spectator event in the United States and the longest ongoing show of its kind in North America.” So they must know something about putting on a good show.

The weekend of August 15-16, the Chicago Air and Water Show 2009 will entertain the dreaming daredevil in all of us. It is the 51st year of operation for the program, and it should be loaded with excitement once more this year.

From humble beginnings

“With audience numbers reaching an average of 2.2 million annually, it is one of the largest spectator events in the world. The first show was held under the direction of Al Benedict, a Chicago Park District Supervisor at Lakeshore Park. Held at Chicago Avenue and Lake Michigan, the show was titled the Lakeshore Park Air & Water Show, and was a part of a ‘Family Day’ celebration for children enrolled in the Chicago Park District’s day camp program. The budget was $88, and the show featured a Coast Guard Air Sea Rescue demonstration, water skiers, a water ballet, games and a diving competition,” according to ExploreChicago.com.

Now, it’s a massively entertaining affair.

How about the lineup?

Performers at the Chicago Air and Water Show 2009 will include such luminaries as the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, U.S. Army Parachute Team Golden Knights, U.S. Navy Parachute Team Leap Frogs, U.S. Coast Guard Air/Sea Rescue, numerous other civilian and military craft and the daredevil stylings of movie stunt pilot Chuck Aaron, who can execute 360-degree loops in the Red Bull Helicopter. Seems like a person would need what they put in Red Bull to have the stones to try something like that.
