Cash For Clunkers List | What the EPA Made Ineligible

How did these vehicles suddenly gain mpg?

Is your vehicle one of the 78 the EPA made ineligible? (Photo: rundeautochat.wordpress.com)

If you’re the owner of one of the cars on the following Cash For Clunkers list, I’m sorry. You’re simply out of luck if you had planned to take advantage of the up to $4,500 voucher good toward the purchase of a new, more fuel-efficient car or truck. Perhaps now you’ll be needing payday loans with no faxing or other short term loans in order to make the down payment on a new car. If so, Personal Money Market may be able to help you.

USA TODAY reports that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) made these changes behind the scenes, just before the Cash For Clunkers program 2009 was about to begin. They have expressed no remorse over any difficulty they may have caused consumers. In fact, they have justified their last second changes by saying that they were operating under a deadline where the first day of the program for consumers was their “drop dead” date.

By way of review

For those of you who don’t know, Cash For Clunkers is a government program that enables consumers to trade in cars that are not fuel efficient (18 mpg or less combined city and highway driving) and are less than 25 years old. Acceptable trade-ins next consumers $3,500 or $4,500 for a new vehicle that gets at least 10 mpg more than their trade-in car or truck.

Here’s the hit list

There are more than 70 different cars that have fallen by the wayside when it comes to the Cash For Clunkers list. Thanks, EPA! I’ll separate the vehicles here by year for your convenience:

I like Alfa Romeo so much that really this article was quite interesting for me. Last years this Italian car designers created some of the best looking cars.

Holy moly, some of those are some of the most popular vehicles in the last 20 years! The Dodge Caravan/Ram Van/Chrysler Van…when I was a kid, everyone had one of those, and a lot of people still do! Also, the Toyota 2WD pickup and 4Runner – another incredibly popular vehicle, and the same with Volkswagen Jettas. I also don't understand why the Jeep Cherokee is on the list – most Jeeps did not come standard with anything lower than a V6, and the Grand Cherokees mostly came stock with a V8 – and a large chunk of V6 motors that were used in SUVs, even the sportier models that were more suited to off roading than hauling around kids, did not exactly have incredible gas mileage. Just because an engine is a 6 cyl. versus an 8 doesn't guarantee fuel efficiency in the slightest. It's just like that stupid loan forgiveness program – there's only a few people that are even going to be eligible. Obama seems to be offering change that hardly anyone can benefit from.
