About Neverland Ranch

A couple of years ago, the property at the Neverland Ranch address was purchased by a large real estate investment firm called Colony Capital. Colony, owned by Thomas Barrack, purchased the property when it went into foreclosure in 2007. Colony paid $22.5 million last year to help Neverland avoid foreclosure, according to the LA Times newspaper. Barrack, who owns a ranch nearby, was also helping revive the pop star’s music career, the newspaper said.

“We are deeply saddened by yesterday’s tragic news about Michael Jackson,” Barrack said in a statement on Colony’s Web site after Jackson passed away last week. “Over the last year, I have had the opportunity to know and work with this gentle and talented man. We were pleased to help support his return to public life through our acquisition of Neverland Ranch.”

“Neverland itself is now a mythical sanctuary to Michael and we are doing our best to accommodate the throngs of global press and fans arriving there to express their grief,” Barrack added.

Preparing for Michael Jackson public viewing

A motorcade has been hired to transport Michael Jackson’s body to the Neverland Ranch address. The body will be transported Thursday, and the Michael Jackson public viewing is Friday. Eulogies across the country have been well attended, including the one in New York. The Reverend Al Sharpton spoke at the Apollo Theater, where Michael Jackson performed as a child.

More money matters

Though Jackson’s family has questioned the validity of a seven-year-old copy of Michael’s will, Entertainment Daily reports:

A lawyer for Michael Jackson’s family said Tuesday a will by the late pop star has been presented.

The word came just a day after the family said in court documents it believed the entertainer had died without a valid will.

“My clients are now aware after filings that a will has been presented ,” said L. Londell McMillan. “His various advisers are looking for additional documents.”

No further details were disclosed, and a copy of the document was not immediately available.

The existence of a will, and the likely appointment of an executor, could complicate a petition by Jackson’s mother Katherine to become the administrator of his lucrative but debt-encumbered estate.
