The Dog and Larry are Best Friends

The Dog worked hard every day

The Dog and Larry have jobs down at the shop. The Dog works like a dog, making his rounds in the tall grass behind the shop. He’s not sure what kind of work Larry does. But it’s the kind of work where Larry sometimes needs a little extra cash before payday.

It was Monday.  Larry always made pancakes on Monday. The Dog was worried. Payday was still a week away. He knew that Larry would need a loan to make the pancakes. But it was already mid-morning and Larry still hadn’t gone out to buy the ingredients.

For altruistic reasons, the Dog wanted to help Larry

The Dog had been working all morning, but he had no money. He thought about how great it would be if he could go online and get emergency money for ingredients so Larry would make the pancakes.

But payday lending was not a realistic option for the Dog because his line of work didn’t involve paychecks. Even if he had some money or the kind of job where he could get a loan till payday, he didn’t know what, exactly, Larry needed for pancakes. And he didn’t know how to drive.

The Dog used up his bag of tricks

The Dog whined and sighed. He stood up and turned around exactly three times. He lay back down in the grass. He stared up at the clouds for as long as he could without blinking. He flopped onto his side. He let his tongue hang out until it started to feel kind of dry. But nothing happened. He tapped his tail on the ground six times. Still nothing. He sat back up and coughed twice. He barked once. What else could he do? He had no money and he was fresh out of tricks.

And then he took a nap

The Dog was so busy daydreaming about online loans and pancakes that he forgot to watch Larry in the shop. He dozed off for just a minute. When he jerked awake, Larry was holding the door to truck cab open and whistling for the Dog to get in. They were going to the store!
