Fighting to be a Survivor again

The “Survivor” television programs test the mettle of its competitors. Contestants must work together and overcome their physical limits in order to succeed. Unfortunately, the winner of “Survivor: Africa,” Ethan Zohn, faces an even greater test. He won’t need a pay day loan or online loans, be he will need all the strength and determination he can muster if he’s going to outlast cd20 positive Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Ethan Zohn has cancer.

Breanne Heldman reports for E! Online that Ethan Zohn, who won the third cycle of the insanely popular television series, has his work cut out for him. The 35-year-old Ethan Zohn shared the sobering news with People.

“This is the ultimate game of Survivor and there’s really only one outcome, and that’s to win,” he says. “There’s no other option.”

Fans remember Ethan Zohn and Jenna Morasca

Ethan Zohn and longtime girlfriend Jenna Morasca (who won Survivor season six) are prepared to fight.

Zohn described symptoms including “night sweats and strange itching.” At first glance, the reality-TV star assumed he was developing some kind of skin condition. But it persisted. After a doctor checking him out, the bad news came on April 30, 2009. Ethan Zohn was  diagnosed with stage two Hodgkin’s disease, or cd20 positive Hodgkin’s lymphoma. It was “a swollen lymph node” and “a mass on the left side of his chest” that led to the diagnosis. This form of cancer is relatively rare.

Chemotherapy has begun

“My life flashed before my eyes,” Zohn says. Sadly, both Ethan Zohn and Jenna Morasca have lost parents to cancer.

Yet the couple is hopeful. According to medical estimates, patients who receive chemotherapy treatment for the disease have a 90 percent chance of survival. However, the treatment will be worse than anything Ethan Zohn encountered on Survivor.

Zohn is prepared to shave his curly hair.

“My hair is my identity,” he told People. “I’ll get a Mohawk or something fun that I’ve always wanted to do… I’ll roll with the punches as it comes to me. That’s how I work. I’m not getting voted out of this one.”

While I’m not a fan of the program, I certainly wish Ethan Zohn good luck and a speedy recovery.
