Raser Technologies introduces electric H3

raserRaser Technologies, Inc., today had the honor of ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange. The timing couldn’t have been better. The company recently unveiled its plug-in electric Hummer H3 E-REV.

The full-size SUV reportedly averages 100 miles per gallon. Raser Technologies is a leading energy technology company that started being traded on the NYSE in December.

Welcome to the stock market

Raser is a relatively new company to the NYSE, and Kraig Higginson, Chairman of Raser Technologies, spoke during the bell-ringing ceremony today.

“We are very pleased to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange, the world’s premier market for publicly traded companies that offers greater access to global capital markets,” Higginson said.

The ceremony put clean energy in the spotlight, and environmentalists all over the blogosphere rejoiced.

Can I buy an electric H3?

Not yet. Production is expected to start sometime in 2011. There’s no word on price yet, but I am assuming buyers will need some hefty personal loans to afford this beast. It’s the same size as a regular H3 — a huge deviation from the compact packages that electric cars usually come in.

The H3 E-REV can go more than 400 miles on a single charge. The vehicle features an E-REV power train engine. and three lithium ion battery packs. As Engadget puts it, “Who says electric cars have to be small, tasteful affairs?”

Electric H3 development

Raser Technologies worked closely with Hummer and the Plug-in Hybrid Development Consortium to develop the SUV. Leading electric utilities, lithium ion battery companies and other automotive technology companies also contributed to its creation.

The H3 goes 40 miles exclusively on batteries when fully charged. So, if an owner drives it less than 40 miles per day and charges it up every night, she could find herself not needing to buy gas at all.

Green energy in the limelight

Raser Technologies enjoyed its time in the NYSE and media spotlight and highlighted its rapid development of geothermal plants. Of course, much attention was also focused on Raser’s E-REV engine, which was developed specifically for SUVS and trucks. According to Huliq:

Raser’s Transportation & Industrial segment focuses on extended-range plug-in-hybrid vehicle solutions and using Raser’s award-winning SymetronTM technology to improve the torque density and efficiency of the electric motors and drive systems used in electric and hybrid-electric vehicle powertrains and industrial applications.

  1. Kevin Thomas says:

This is green as it gets in todays big ego big spenders market. This is an investment toward the future energy crisis. Hybrids with the tools one might need in the changeing N.E climate.
    Lets talk fleet.

  2. Peter Stone says:

Now this is a hybrid I would buy! Well, if I had the money. Hummers are expensive enough already, a hybrid model is going to be through the roof. When they come out with a hybrid Jeep Rubicon or Chevy 1/2 ton, I am going to be on top of it. (Especially any black models with a short box…I’m beginning to drool.) Engadget is absolutely right. “Who says hybrids have to be small, tasteful affairs?” Brilliant!
