Quick Test Detects Infection
The Conficker Eye Chart can quickly and easily let you know if your computer is infected. The Conficker C computer virus didn’t turn April 1 into a doomsday like many expected. However, it’s still out there, and it’s quietly doing its job.
Here’s a link to the Conficker Eye Chart as well as an explanation for how to use it.
What Conficker C does
Conficker C is basically a spam-sending machine. A few days ago, the worm began installing SpywareProtect2009 on infected machines. Basically, the worm offers to clean itself off your computer — for about $50. The pop-up window might behave strangely. For some users it wouldn’t close or expand. If you get a pop-up selling antivirus software that won’t go away from clicking the “close” button, hit ctrl+alt+del.
The worm performs a few other functions, which you can read about here.
How to get rid of Conficker C
If you want to avoid needing a payday loan to pay off your fake AV software, avoid paying for the fake scareware in the first place. Only download antivirus software if it’s from a well-known, reputable company such as Symantec or McAfee.
If you have checked the chart and found that your computer may be infected, there are ways to uninstall the virus. PC World Business Center has step-by-step instructions on how to do it.
An epidemic
The makers of Conficker C aren’t the only crooks trying to get you to buy fake software. We’ve all been inundated with pop-ups selling software. Most of us don’t even notice it anymore.
It’s tough to tell the difference sometimes between a real threat and just another fake AV software peddler. But what Conficker C has taught us is that a fake warning could mean your computer has a real virus. Read up on this trend at Security Alert.

Judging by the photo, that computer has detected “wormsign the likes of which God has never seen.”
Frank Herbert fans often dance to their own Dune. (Oh, that is horrible!) That’s a great tool that the conficker group is offering. I hope that enough people can get to free diagnostics in time to keep the infection rate low. I hope someone busts the punks that put the worm out there, and can collect Microsoft’s bounty on them.
