Your dream vacation

weekend inspirationYou have finally designed your perfect travel itinerary. Are you prepared to use cash advances, in an emergency, to complete the picture. The equation begins with deciding where to go, and when to do it. Traveling is not so much about logging as many places and hours, but knowing which places will be relevant to your life, including your interests and preferences. Then the fun begins—at prices that won’t go beyond your budget.

When and Where To Go

If you’re planning on journeying within the United States, the best times to go would be during the off season, when prices are lower, or during the regular-priced season when there are more people and activities. However, the reason why it’s called off-season is because a lot of things are indeed off—weather, availability of fun and enjoyable things to do, and people to do them with. On the other hand, the more happening times of summer, spring, and fall can bring you more fun memories and opportunities. So the first thing to decide on is when and where; that is, in consideration of your travel and life goals, as well as your companions.

Plan Your Trip

Sure, leaving caution to the wind and letting it take you where it will sounds good for film characters on a journey, but real-life travelers need to make at least a semblance of a plan. Better yet, research online and ask friends who have been there about the best ways to get there, get around, and make the most of your trip. Check out airline, train and bus schedules, and compare prices against the time and convenience offered by each option. Canvas for hotels, inns, or bed-and-breakfasts, or email an old classmate or cousin who has since set up residence in the area, and ask if they can put you up for a few days. List activities you can do for the least amount of money, or better yet, for free—surprisingly, there are a lot of free things to do, available everywhere.

Stumbling Blocks

This often happens online, since there are many web banners announcing this or that airline having the cheapest rates, this particular hotel will give two extra nights free, and so on. What they don’t banner are the extra costs, the hidden add-ons to the supposedly cheap price; soon you’ll discover that you’ve paid much more than you’d originally intended, definitely beyond the bargain prices you thought you were getting. One way to protect yourself from this is to search online for reviews and comments about travel-related products and services; the real experiences of those who had been there before you will ultimately be valuable to your trip’s success and your own peace of mind.

If All Else Fails, Cash In

Sometimes things can’t be helped; you find yourself credited with a list of high-priced hotel stays, a couple of bloated airfare packages, and more than the usual amount of touristy promotions and merchandise. If this does happen, take heed in the fact that cash is available for you to pay with when the credit card bill arrives—through cash advances. For amounts from $100 to $1,500, get just enough cash to cover your incidental and accidental expenses, which are common during traveling. And since they’re not huge loans, you can pay them off just like that.

Go and see the rest of the world, and travel to your heart’s content. But remember that the joy of the journey is not in the ultimate destination, but in the process of getting there.
