If the rumors are true, Dr. Sanjay Gupta may not need payday loans for a long time. Dr. Gupta has reportedly been approached to occupy the biggest medical post that a person can hold in the United States, that of the Surgeon General. Dr. Gupta has reportedly been approached by Barack Obama to take the position, and he has reportedly accepted. The rumor mill has begun turning on this one, especially since such a high profile doctor has been approached about filling one of the highest medical offices in the land, and also because he said he would take it if the position was offered to him. Dr. Gupta is one the highest profile medical professionals in the media, and would easily be an incredibly media friendly Surgeon General, in the tradition of Ronald Reagan’s Surgeon General, C. Everett Koop.
Turns out he’s quite the doctor, too
Dr. Sanjay Gupta has been reporting for CNN for over 7 years. He joined the CNN team in 2001 after the beginning of a successful practice. Dr. Gupta received both his BA and MD from the University of Michigan, home to one of the most prestigious medical science schools in the country. University of Michigan graduates and professional schools are amongst the most elite of elite in the USA, as their medical school, law school, and business schools are consistently rated as amongst the best in the nation, and also the world for the quality of education in their respective fields. Dr. Gupta also completed his medical residency (where a specialized practitioner or surgeon receives the bulk of the training in their specialty) in Michigan for neurosurgery. Michigan graduates are highly sought after in their fields of graduate study, and he even managed to become one of the White House Fellows, or a fellowship that places people in the White House to work, during the Clinton Administration. This guy won’t be up hard for a payday in his life, to be sure; or payday loans for that matter.
After beginning his rotation on CNN as a correspondent in Atlanta, Dr. Gupta was one of the first people on the scene during the 9/11 attacks reporting, and then followed a unit of US Marine combat doctors during the Iraq war. During his coverage, Dr. Gupta was asked to assist in several surgeries on victims of head trauma, which he did, including one Marine who survived the wound and surgery and was sent home to recuperate. During his time with CNN, his duties were expanded to posting articles on CNN’s health web pages, submitting reports to other news outlets – he even found time to publish in medical journals about groundbreaking neurosurgery techniques.
Gupta Approached for Surgeon General
Obama has been filling out a cabinet of high powered professionals in his cabinet, people of real authority and expertise. His pick for Secretary of Energy is a Nobel Prize winner, and Dr. Gupta would make for a dandy Surgeon General. Past Surgeon Generals, all of whom become commissioned Vice Admirals of the Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, the least known of the uniformed branches of the government (the Armed Services are four of them) were all top authorities in their fields. So if your budget needs some transplanted funds due to a recent sudden amputation, payday loans might be just what the doctor ordered.
