A Payday Loan? Lego Revolution? I know what you are wondering, ” Just what exactly is she talking about?” Last night, while I was enjoying a weekly cruise of ever-so-entertaining YouTube.com videos, I came across a giant vault of videos that featured Lego play sets imitating movies and rocking out to music from some very popular bands. These videos are quite possibly the most creative stop-motion animation movies I’ve seen since Robot Chicken debuted on the Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim.
I can’t get enough of these Lego creations; they are hilarious. There are even small movie remakes of some of today’s most popular box office hits, including the Matrix, Indiana Jones, The Dark Knight, Spider-Man and Star Wars. The list of entertainment goes on and on for the Lego Revolution. Once you start watching them you won’t be able to stop. I watched for nearly two and a half hours last night, and the only reason I stopped was I couldn’t breath from laughing so hard.
The Lego Revolution?
The revolution is a group of stop-motion animators who are taking the Internet by storm. The participants are as young as 14, and when it comes to making these mini masterpieces, they are using every Lego piece you dreamed about having when you were a kid.
The directors who put these stop-motion animation videos together are true artists, and they are gathering a strong following of viewers on youtube. My personal music video favorites include: Metallica in Lego, The Beatles-Help!, Thriller with Legos and Bohemian Rhapsody Lego. There are so many amazing videos, the possibilities for entertainment are endless.
So, What Is Stop-Motion Animation?
Does anyone remember Gumby? It is a form of stop-motion animation. The Wikipedia definition states: “Stop motion (or frame-by-frame) is an animation technique to make a physically manipulated object appear to move on its own. The object is moved by small amounts between individually photographed frames, creating the illusion of movement when the series of frames are played as a continuous sequence. Clay figures are often used in stop motion animations, known as claymation, for their ease of repositioning.”
Stop-motion animation is very time consuming and takes a lot of patience, just like trying to apply for a payday loan at a walk-in payday loan store instead of applying online.
Stop-Motion Is Not Just For Legos
You have probably seen a stop-motion animation film and may not have known it. Animators are using everything from Barbie dolls to PEZ dispensers for their films. Some popular stop-motion films you have probably heard of are: The Nightmare Before Christmas, James and the Giant Peach, Chicken Run and The Corpse Bride. There are also a great deal of indie animation film makers who have produced millions of stop-motion animation films.
Support the Lego Revolution!
I encourage everyone to watch these videos; you won’t be disappointed. For those of you who still have a box of Legos in your basement or garage, wipe the dust off of them and join the Revolution!

i used to film lego and playmobil toys with video 8… how times have changed!
Stop motion animation is a lost art, and to see it return, even only to the internet, is interesting to say the least. (Anyone ever see the original King Kong? Stop motion at the height of its game!) LEGOs are some of the fondest memories I have from childhood, and it is great to see that they are still one of the greatest selling toys for kids. I haven’t done much with them for years, since I had to LEGO of the things of childhood!
wow!!! over time things sure do change
Nicktoons and Lego recently sponsored a stop motion animation competition. My entry was selected as the grand prize winner, check it out!

And yes, there are a ton of fantastic Lego shorts out there, thanks for noticing! I will be producing an official short for Lego/Nick over the next few months… stay tuned.
I can see why it takes a lot of time and patience to create a Lego flick. I think it is absolute amazing how advanced technology has become. You can do practically anything you want as long as you have the right tools. LEGOs also had a huge part in my childhood dreams and adventures… oh, those were the days.
