An Atlantis Airlines plane has gone missing with eleven passengers. The plane, named “The Britton Norman Islander” vanished from radar 35 minutes after it took off Monday afternoon.
It was flying from the Dominican Republic to its next scheduled stop to refuel in the the Bahamas before heading to NY. Reportedly their was an emergency signal sent 35 minutes after it took off and shortly before it disappeared.
Search Crews Are Looking For Signs of Life and Wreckage
Emergency funds have Coast Guard search teams are diligently searching the area of the Atlantic ocean near the west Caicos Island but neither the pilot, the eleven passengers nor the plane have been spotted. The weather has made search conditions difficult with low visibility and large ocean swells.
US Coast Guard, spokeswoman Jennifer Johnson said.
“Two helicopters, six twin aircraft and a Coast Guard ship with about 100 people on board are participating in this mission,”
The owner of the company which the plane was registered to called “Puerto Rico Airlines ” which is based out of Carolina , Peurto Rico, said that the plane was for sale and was to only be inspected in the Dominican Republic.

“The Britton Norman Islander” is not the name of the plane but the make. It is a twin engine fixed landing gear aircraft manufactured by Britten-Norman of the UK.
what a terrible thing to happen
That’s sad, I know someone whose husband was on that plane. Its terrible but I was told that the plane fell because it was overloaded.
