Which is easier: applying to become a member of Barack Obama’s staff or applying for quick payday loans?

I know that the answer is obvious, but allow me to show you just how far beyond obvious it is.

According to CNN, the Obama transition team has devised a seven-page, 63-question application that every person who is interested in a Cabinet or other high-ranking position must complete. With about 7,000 positions of that nature that are waiting to be filled, hiring staff will have their hands full as they evaluate candidates based upon a wide array of questions.

Professional background, publications/writings/speeches, relationships and affiliations, financial information, tax information, legal and administrative proceedings, use of domestic help and more are categories that applicants must be careful to answer in great detail.

Here are some of my favorite questions (Your Crazy Eight):

• Please furnish copies of all resumes and biographical statements issued by you or any other entity at your discretion or with your consent within the past 10 years

Please list all aliases or “handles” you have used to communicate over the Internet
• Electronic communications: If you have ever sent an electronic communication, including but not limited to an E-mail, text message or instant message, that could suggest a conflict of interest or be a possible source of embarrassment to you, your family, or the President-Elect if it were made public, please describe.
• Please list any complaint made against you or your spouse by any administrative agency, regulatory body, professional association or organization, or federal, state, local, Indian or foreign ethics agency, committee, or official
• Do you presently have or have you in the past had occasional (to be sure, a monthly housekeeper is covered) or regular domestic help? (e.g., a housekeeper, babysitter, nanny or gardener). If yes, please indicate the name and years of service for each individual and also provide a brief description of the services rendered
• Please provide the URL address of any Web sites that feature you in either a personal or professional capacity (e.g., Facebook, MySpace, etc.)

That’s comprehensive… and that’s only 8 of 63!

In fact, there are more than 63 questions if you count the doubling up of responses to cover your spouse when it applies.
